The Lego Movie is awesome and the first game was pretty good, too! The Lego Movie 2 is fine and the game is also fine, not bad just exactly what you would expect but, yeah, I guess everything is awesome.

Sit back and enjoy as the Giant Bomb team takes an unedited look at the latest video games.

Abby, 11 minutes in: "I feel like I'm maybe missing something."

This is the exact feeling I have whenever I try to play these Lego games. The puzzles are so unintuitive and they just let you twist in the wind forever as things that should work don't work.

If I recall, neither LEGO Movie (nor The LEGO Batman Movie, I haven't seen the Ninjago movie) have a fart joke. They have a lot more physical, visual, and wordplay humor at their disposal.

Do any of the lego Games just give you all the pieces and let you build freely at any point?

LEGO Worlds does that.

The European LEGO competitor Dan was thinking of is Playmobil; it's a German builder toy that's vaguely similar.

@dixavd: I'd answer your question but the answer is in the movie.

As for this game, I got it for my kids the day it came out, they said it's the greatest Lego game they've played, and I own all of them at this point.

Looks like there are at least some new ideas in this one, but I'm just so very tired of Lego games by now.

I can see what Abby means about the colors being kind of overwhelming to the eyes in this specific Lego game. I honestly haven't played any of these games, but I think the best looking one that I've seen was the Lord of the Rings one. That game was very green and pretty.

Something about the flow of this is odd and plodding. It seems aimless and kinda limp.

Good to see them take the loading screens from Lego Dimensions and use them again.

Why would you play this game without bothering to watch the movie?

It seems like they went with using Lego Worlds as a base for this game and then kind of molded it into a more traditional style Lego game. Though I didn't put that much time into worlds so maybe I'm wrong, the last game though, Lego DC Super Villains, definitely was a traditional standard style Lego game though.

The thing I most dislike about the admittedly few modern LEGO games I've played is how heavily they lean on sections where you're in a large area with relatively simple, albeit time-consuming, puzzles while enemies swarm you. The OG LEGO Star Wars games were simple, sure, but most of the charm came from just seeing those iconic areas/scenes LEGO-fied, and that was enough for me as far as what I was expecting from it.
