Yeah, I love rorie but we need less of him, once a month would be great. They are hiring one more person if I remember correctly, hopefully that would mean that they can rotate out Rorie and Jason every now and then. They are amazing at what they do but they aren't infront of camera people.

Also @rorie if you want to get into the DLC now after beating the game is the best time because if you get significantly far into NG+ then the DLC areas will scale with you in a way that will make them extremely unpleasant to play through. I went back to the DLC after having a character that was in the NG+++ (about three or more times through the game) and even basic mobs hit for about 3/4 of my lifebar. Didn't even get to the first boss because it was just one hit kills from everything.

@homelessbird: You're saying The Surge is not a third person, melee-focused action-rpg with a light and heavy attack featuring corpse runs? The Souls "genre" at this point is something like three Dark Souls games, one Demon's Souls, one Bloodborne, a Nioh, a Lords of the Fallen, The Surge and a Salt & Sanctuary. Some of those games are more different than others, but there's nothing weird about comparing them, especially when the original FromSoft games outnumber the rest. It's not like "The Dark Souls of whatever" talk, these games have a lot of design similarities. "It's like Dark Souls, but" is a good shorthand, because it establishes quickly the kind of action-RPG we're talking about, rather than confusing it with Skyrim or whatever. "It's like Dark Souls, but there are only five bosses" sounds real bad, and if you've got a way to explain why it's a point in the game's favor instead I'd like to hear it.

@redhotchilimist: that was kind of my whole point - describing it that way does it a disservice, because "Dark Souls with 5 bosses" does indeed sound bad. But it's a pretty different thing. It's barely an RPG, first of all; it's much more of a gear focused action game. And since you can specifically target enemies to get their armor and weapons, it makes sense that they focused on those, instead of lots of bosses. It's also a lot more of a linear game, and shorter than most Dark Souls (from what I have read, as I haven't finished it) mostly because there aren't lots of side areas to explore with minibosses and what not. It's just not that kind of game.

I'm not saying I can't see the comparison. I'm just saying at some point it stops being a useful shorthand and becomes a crutch. Salt and Sanctuary was deliberately in the style of Souls, as was Lords of the Fallen. Nioh and the Surge are not, and Souls did not invent the action RPG - there are probably as many points of comparison with Diablo as with Souls in those games, but I wouldn't call them "Diablo-Likes" either. I was being hyperbolic in my previous post, but I do think there's a line where we've stopped being descriptive and started being lazy. I just don't want another "Roguelike/Rougelite/Roguelitelite" nightmare, personally.

I agree. I've seen so many people label games as "Souls-like" that have almost nothing in common with Souls/Bloodborne. I almost didn't play Hollow Knight because so many people were calling it a Souls-like. Turns out it's actually a pretty by-the-numbers Metroidvania and I love it.

@samba_p: while once a month might be a bit severe, in essence I completely agree with you. Rorie seems like a really nice guy, but always gets befuddled in front of the camera. He's constantly tripping over his words, apologizing for taking up time talking about himself/Warcraft (yet continues on in great detail about both), and regales us stories about buying jeans, etc. I can only imagine how difficult it must be trying to have a sparkling on camera personality, so I don't want to be too harsh on the guy, but a happy medium of his camera time would be nice. Please don't be offended, Rorie!

Sonic R is a bad game, but holy shit do I love it. It's so fun! The balance is hilarious and stupid! I wish that they would make another one.

Also, the soundtrack is great for cardio. When "Can You Feel the Sunshine" comes up, I get the irresistible urge to sprint for the duration.

At this point I think I may just wait until I have a new TV to play the game on and start over. My home TV has a 60ms lag time, even in game mode. It's really, really tough to get the timing down on gun parries; it was a lot easier on the TV in the studio.

I developed my man crush on Rorie long before watching him on screen and I'm still hooked after ?. Puppy power.

Please don't listen to these people. There are many of us that love you Rorie. This is just a vocal minority.

@rorie: That sounds cool too, new hardware is always a great excuse to go back to games to see how the experience might have changed. My only comment for that is, while I probably like Bloodborne the most out of all the Souls games post-Demon's, it is not a game that lends itself to dramatically different character builds. Armor is basically there just for dress up as the stats aren't really that different, and you don't get that many different variations with the weapons as you're either going for the strength or skill build - so this time around you might go through the game using the cane, and thats what I did, but strength weapons stagger bosses so it's easier to go with those. Magic isn't even an option until you're about halfway through the story so thats a build only for the hardcore player that will invest into stats that will be useless for the first dozen hours.

My suggestion would be to put the game down until you have that sweet new TV, and then get into that DLC area. You'll get to try out parries in new zones and experience new bosses, all the while saving the option to start a NG+ in the main story. Or who knows, maybe somehow a Bloodborne 2 will actually get announced and then you can just jump into that instead. Lord knows I tried to read the item descriptions and tooltips when playing Bloodborne and really tried to somehow gleam the narrative through all the obfuscation but it was like trying to eek blood from stone (no pun intended). I am really amazed at all the crazy conjuncture you see in those YouTube videos.

Wait, there's a German restaurant in San Francisco that's literally called "soup kitchen"? Somehow I can't imagine the food quality there being too great.

Also, I have no opinion on how much time any one GB employee should spend in front of the camera/mic. It's usually pretty entertaining so just do whatever the fuck you want.

I really disagree with the people who want less Rorie, this has been the most fun UPF (imo) in some time. There must be a sweet spot at work here because Ben is more talkative and having weird(good) back and forth with Rorie and Jason. Brad also seems far more spry and the conversation is more lively. Good stuff.

Oh man, I love Sonic R and spent far too many hours unlocking everything. It's a garbage game, but I can't resist the allure of such an odd game and soundtrack. Thanks for bringing this back into my life Brad.
