Smashbox Arena is a virtual reality (VR) team shooter game developed by BigBox VR. The title was originally released on the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in December 2016. In May 2017, BigBox VR partnered with publisher Archiact to release Smashbox Arena on PlayStation VR in summer 2017.
Gameplay
Smashbox Arena features sports-based VR team combat with rules similar to dodge ball. Players enter into a match, and must eliminate all members of the opposing team by using two guns to shoot projectiles found around the map. Projectiles include regular balls, as well as physics-based power-ups. Players can move around the map by shooting a teleporter projectile, which will teleport the player to wherever it lands. Once eliminated, players cannot respawn until the next round begins. Players can choose either single player and multiplayer mode, with up to 6 players able to play 3v3 team matches in online multiplayer.
When entering a match, players are assigned to teams and a map is randomly selected. Matches are decided by which team wins the most rounds. Each round is timed; if both teams remain after the allotted time, a Tie-Breaker Missile will appear in the centre of the map, which will auto-eliminate the entire enemy team when activated.
At the end of a match, the winning team will appear on a raised pedestal in the centre of the map, and can pull their triggers to shoot confetti to celebrate their win.
Power-Ups
Power-ups are special projectiles that randomly spawn at certain points around the maps. There are six power-ups available to players, each with its own unique use.
