I have a crappy $999 MacBook that runs Civ IV kind of smoothly. I'm curious to if it runs Starcraft II. 
 
I'm sorry in advanced that I'm not as smart as you are.

I doubt it, but depending on the age of that crappy Macbook, the answer is yes (at lowest settings). If you have any non-Intel graphics card it should do fine. If it's an Intel, you're probably screwed.

do I look like a wizard?

I'm sure you'll be able to run it at lowest settings. Hell, maybe with some medium settings. 
 
You can try to get one of those 7 hour trials that come with the game.

Maybe you should just stick to the first Starcraft?
