So whenever I try to start up SC2 it starts auto-updating, then it stops and says: "This update requires the North American English version of this software. Currently the European english version is installed".

Run the repair tool first thing.

They just started up the patch 1.20 beta for North American players, and it was delivered by the updater. If the update is visible in all regions, then your updater wants to download it but can't because you're not in North America. If that's the problem, then you're not missing anything.

I doubt is has something to do with NA. My installer wants to install the German on my English (EU) client.
