Overview
Steel Dragon EX, known in Japan as Simple 2000 Series Vol. 37: The Shooting ~Double Shienryū~, is a sci-fi vertical-scrolling shoot-'em-up compilation developed by Warashi and published for the PlayStation 2 in Japan (by D3 Publisher on October 23, 2003) and Europe (by Midas on January 20, 2005).
Originally released as part of D3's Simple series of budget games, Steel Dragon EX includes the 1997 shoot-'em-up Shienryu (now known in the European version as Steel Dragon) as well as a new 2.5D sequel known as "Steel Dragon Evolution" (or, in the Japanese version, Shienryū Explosion).
The sequel is notable for its customizable combinations of pilots and ships (determining not only the speed and firepower, but also the Bomb used) and for its special firepower system (where depending on how the button is pressed, players can fire quick wide shots or powerful concentrated shots).
