I want to buy an original SNES but since I missed out on that era of games I'm not sure where to buy from or anything to look out for. Is there a lockout chip like on the NES and do parts of them easily break? Where should I buy from and what price should the console and games be?

There is a lockout chip for the SNES, but it's not really troublesome like the one on the NES. The SNES is generally a pretty solid console, so you should be able to find one in good working condition without looking too hard. If there's a technical issue you're more likely to have to deal with, it'll be batteries in the game cartridges needing to be replaced.
