    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Game » consists of 30 releases. Released Nov 11, 2011

The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. I don't really see how they can assume it's massive but it does look sweet.

@Juicebox: Realistically, Skyrim is fully designed, both mechanically and graphically, and pretty damn close to code-complete. A massive portion of Bethesda has probably already been divvied up between Skyrim DLC and their next game, which is presumably Fallout 4. Although, it could also be something new, I guess.

with all of these "Providences" in the elder scrolls world, dont you think they are kinda setting this all up for one giant game or MMO? how awesome would it be to include Morrowind, Hammerfell, Cyrodiil, and High Rock?

Why is this a thing? We all knew the size of Skyrim before this.

There's a map of the whole of Tamriel.

That actually looks smaller than Oblivion if you take the scale of the Cyrodiil map into account.

@AlexW00d: It a thing because as far as I know this is the map of the game world. The labeled towns and landmarks and such are all a part of the game. This will probably be similar to (if not exactly) what you will get if you preordered.

Yeah, just like every Elder Scrolls game, what's surprising about that?

Hes being sarcastic. The world has gotten smaller since Morrowind. The map kinda gives a small sense of scale.

Well Morrowind was smaller than Oblivion, so if it's even smaller, that's fine. Those games are shitty when they have to stretch the detail across too much land. Like Oblivion. Big n' empty.

About the most awesome thing ever. When I first saw the new map I thought to myself, "How cool would it be to revisit Morrowind?" As far as world aesthetics goes, Morrowind is certainly my favorite thus far - there was nothing quite as striking or weird in Cyrodiil. Certainly excited for Skyrim.

You know what would be awesome? An expansion pack that includes Solstheim, just to take a look at how much things have changed since Morrowind.

I hate when people comment on a game's size by looking at a map that has no indication of scale.

I hope there's a way to make it like Fallout, where you can only quick travel somewhere after you've explored it. Makes the game more interesting/fun IMO. If there isn't I'm sure there'll be a PC mod for it so I'm covered anyway, but it would be great if I didn't have to do the legwork.

That was the case in Oblivion too, other than the main cities, which you can easily hand-wave with guild-guides or major trade/caravan routes through the region anyway.

I'm waiting for some computer genius to make mountains passable on the edges of provinces, and link togethor Skyrim, Cyrodill and Morrowind. I don't mean in a new game, either. You pass from Skyrim to Oblivion graphics, then on to Morrowind graphics.
