So does armour affect my ability to use magic?

Hey guys, this is my first time properly playing an elder scrolls game and I only have one major question so far. Does the armour I'm wearing affect my ability to cast spells? I know heavier armour makes it harder to be sneaky but I can't work out if it affects your magic casting.

I'm trying to play a battle mage and can't work out if wearing heavier armour will negatively affect me...

It did in Oblivion, so I'm curious if Bethesda is consistent with Skyrim.

If it doesn't say so somewhere in the menu UI, then I would guess not. Even Oblivion communicated your spell effectiveness in the spells menu.

No the armour your wearing does not affect your spell casting ability, some clothes buff your spells and magicka, but you are never unable to cast spells.

So the only reason to wear some of the cloth mage armour stuff is to add buffs?

I'm just wondering if there would be anything to stop a guy concentrating on magicks and then wearing heavy armour too.

Yeah, if your wearing armour you don't get any magic based buffs e.g. Magicka Regens 50% faster. Granted i am only 4 hours in so there may be armour with magical buffs later on.

At the moment i am rolling a sword/shield/bow/magic/heavy armour imperial, so there is nothing stopping hybrid builds.
