I just finished the quest and I have to say it's quite sad. I'm just wondering if the quest in fact does end with Nurelion being disappointed and living out the last days of his life in sadness or is there actually a way to fix the White phial before I give it to him?

This seems way too depressing for an Elder Scrolls side quest. I'm loving it

That's the same ending I got, in any case.

It was a dark brotherhood quest all along.

I just got a letter from a courier which prompted me to return to his assistant, don't worry there's more to do.

Wait for a courier, that is all.
