Simpsons Game (PS3) Review
Note: I’m not going to edit the text on this one (capitalization, etc.) because the game sucks.
this is going to be a brief review, but you will get a few stories about why NOT to buy this game.
graphics are good, in cut scenes. in any other scene it absolutely sucks. I'm sure it looks better in HD, but HEY! I'm still playing the game too. points off because the sd gamers basically get shat on, again.
sound, arg, well… its there, and its repeated every 5 seconds. the voice acting is the Simpson's people, but the fact of the matter is that the design of the sound and the way they use everything is absolutely horrible.
story is misplaced at best. it goes from a to b and then you end up in d skipping c. yeah sure your playing a videogame in a videogame and the characters are conscious of that, but the thing is they add so much crap that it overtakes the story. example, the aliens. they are there for no freaking reason, other then to have the voices in there and something else to shoot. what irks me is i see a review about how good the sound it, but then all i hear is the same exact thing every 2 seconds. call that good? NO!
gameplay is probably where i hate this the most. the remakes suck balls. half are good, and spot on, but on the whole they leave a LOT to be desired. same thing with the gaming cliche’s. they are so dumb, and basically triggered events. instead of at the point where you have issues with the camera, you have to do it on a specific level at a certain scenario. you have to search for them, instead of them finding you. good remakes include frogger, space invaders, gauntlet, and there are some others, but the bad ones include Pokemon, dance dance revolution/guitar hero/rock band and whatever else i am forgetting. keep in mind that i forget these, because that is how well they are retrofitted into the game and how obvious that they are.
learning curve is just about nonexistent, but it does get mildly difficult in the long run, a lot of it is artificial difficulty, and not the fact that the game is challenging.
environment is good, minus the aliens and the stupid plots.
now, design is where i cant rip on them too much. the concepts behind the game and the thoughts on paper are brilliant, but the way that things are in the game is actually very different then they should be. camera in open world, you would thing something that works incredibly well. WRONG. you cant look through objects, meaning if you are standing on a box looking at a wall then you have to stay looking at the wall because you can put the camera parallel to the wall because there might be a balcony or something that screws and blocks the camera. this by far is the most infuriating thing in the game.
also, the powers for the characters are retarded. you have Bart who is just basically batman, and you have homer the blob. but then you have Lisa, who is basically a strategy game on the PC and then you have marge, who goes through grand theft scratchy and Springfield combining mobs and using Maggie as the darkness (uh…. happens 2-3 times and is freaking pointless). you don't use the burbs, the sax, all you do is shoot with Bart, roll with homer, use marge because you have to. it should have been Lisa and marge and then Bart and homer, who all meet in the end.
feel on this game is a bit tough. as you can tell im pissed off because the story and design, but i did play the game through. i got to the boss, had to grab an FAQ because i couldnt see where to go thanks to the camera, and i ended up having to do a lot of things that i shouldnt to beat the game. overall, LAME, mildly good, and in the long run. LACKING.
