I Hope things don't go badly for several of these game franchises, and it somehow works out for them.
THQ
Company »
THQ Inc. (Toy Headquarters) was a global American developer and publisher of video games.
Looks Like THQ's Owned Properties Will Be Auctioned Off Anyway
alot of these games are nearly finished any e.g south park, company of heroes and metro, hopefully these studios can find another publisher similar to what happened with sleeping dogs. Would not be too surprised if homefront 2 got cancelled seeing as this was thq's go at the fps market and the other big publishers dont need another shooter. Hard to say whats going to happen with saints row even though it was a good game i dont think it sold that well.
It would be cool if Warner Brothers picked up Volition/Saints Row. The next city that the Saints go to could have Johnny Cage as the mayor, and you can go on rampages dressed as Batman!
I've been on a bit of a THQ binge lately due to the crazy cheap bundles that were offered up recently on humble bundle and amazon. I gotta say, THQ put out some entertaining games the last couple years, but they are games that looking back had no audience in the world where the B-tier game is getting squeezed out. I really like Volition's stuff the best. I really liked Red Faction: Armageddon, which was largely written off at the time because it was linear and not the zany open world fun of Guerrilla, but I really had a lot of fun with the weapons and destructibles in the game. I hope in some way the Red Faction destructibility aspect can live on, maybe in some other franchise by Volition on next gen systems where the amount of destructiblity has the potential, I suppose, to be that much greater. Also really like the irreverent characters in Volition games, who, when faced with overwhelming forces against them, always seem to have a one liner and one last machine gun in their hands. Of course I just bought all these games for pennies and none of them for full price when they needed the support, save for SR3, so I guess beggers can't be choosers about the fates of a lot of this stuff.
Would a Licenced Franchise like the Warhammer 40k licence be up for action as well or would Games Workshop have the right to send that licence off to some one els.. i noticed just a week ago Games Workshop announced a IPhone game of Space Hulk that was not being made by a THQ company but rather a indy dev from the looks of it.
I hope Games Workshop keep Vigil Games working on the Dark Millennium multiplayer *pre release reboot* .. that would have been soooo dope Warhammer Battlefield/ wowBattlegrounds was what it sounded like and that seriously would have been a huge hit and could have no joke killed Call of duty and BF3 and crysis and halo combined... its bloody sad.. sigh... plz plz plz i hope that doesn't stop like.. sigh that game has to come out!!... plz plz plz
Well at least THQ went out with a bang by making WWE 13, which is probably the most fun wrestling game I've played since No Mercy.
I'm curious if Yukes still makes those games after someone buys the license. Given their ties to wrestling I would hope so. They're not the most talented team, but they have heart.
Sure, pick the bad EA wrestling example.
They also made Def Jam Vendetta and Def Jam Fight for NY via AKI. The two best wrestling games I've ever played.
I would love if SEGA bought Relic. Relic and Creative Assembly would be some top notch RTS talent to own.

As long as we get the south park game it does'nt really matter who publishes it, And how many people are really going to care about saints row 4 when gta v comes out next year?
You haven't been on this site very long, have you?
I really hope that the IPs and Studios are a package deal, I need The Next Great Game in the Saints Row Franchise. I at least want Steve Jaros to keep writing for games like that.
I'm fine with EA picking up Saints Row, if only it means keeping Activision from getting a hold of it.
I somehow have an image of publishers as people going through the stalls as a garage sale.
And I really don't want the saints row franchise to go to EA or Activision.
Valves Steam BOX killer app will not be HL3 we have already got HL3 and HL3ep1 but are too greedy and stupid to admit that it was just Portal and Portal2
i could it be that STEAM BOXs big exclusive is a franchise picked up in this very sale. Valve would have made a killing selling various THQ games on steam over the year and they clearly had a very very fond place in their hearts for the STALKER series via the special support they gave it.. THQ games where constantly in high sales amounts on steam and in prime places over its dash.
With Valves work emulating the Blizzards Warcraft style on Dota2 which in turn emulates Warhammer... mabye Valves killer app will be a Warhammer 40k title? the art assets of that canned 40k MMO seem of great quality and prime for use (on Source rather than the Darksiders engine they are currently rigged up for?). and Warhammer is really popular in areas where steam is the strongest such as the UK and Europe as well as Russia.
Lets face it for mass marketing apeal Valves Franchises are kinda weak Counter Strike probably stands out the most but with the recent shootings i doubt any Marketing team would want to push that as a advertised title. They need some thing that jumps out at a bored gaming audience stuck in realism but still obsessed with world of warcraft. a Warhammer 40k reskin of mabye a game Valve are already working on but have not nailed down a visual style for would be some thing very atractive to get hold of at a good price i would imagine.
Fake dreams over.
People saying Activision will get Saints Row, I present to you Sleeping Dogs, and Activision letting it go to Square Enix because they couldn't annualise it. I see Warner Bros getting Saints Row, and alternating it with Batman games. Or Maybe Ubisoft, doing the same thing with Assassin's Creed.
The main things I'm concerned about with this auction is Relic, Volition, and Vigil and their associated properties. I'm concerned that they would go to a bad home, be separated from their properties, the quality of the IPs would suffer, and/or the teams being "restructured" during the moves. Let's face it, these franchises are so entrenched with the devs that it would probably be a bad idea to separate them, but knowing big publishers it doesn't matter to them.
Company of heros 2 is on steam for preorder sooooo my guess is that must be pretty locked in right? right?
Wow, I've never thought of publishers selling the rights to their games like this. Can't say I'm too excited at the prospect, but there haven't been many exciting THQ games lately - there's been a few games I've really liked over the last few years, but for each of those there's about 10 mediocre license titles, and missed opportunities.

THQ hasn't been publishing licensed titles (unless you count WWE or Warhammer 40K) for a few years now.
On one hand I'm bummed, as I don't think a lot of THQ's properties will find a good home with other publishers.
On the other hand though I'm happy, as THQ tried to screw over its investors and creditors and I'm happy to hear it might not be that bad for those people.
@Midjet: Don't think so, none of the products seem consistent with Valve's back catalog or brand values. They don't exactly need it, either, they've got a money machine in churning out hats.
Count on one of the big publishers to pick up on it, shutter it and lock it away.
I wonder if the WWE is going to try andbget there own license back with some kind of in house games studio, it's something I could see Vince doing.

That game was already turned into a single player game a while ago. THQ tried to find someone to co-publish and finance it, but no one was interested so they decided to drop all multiplayer and just make it a single player game.
Yeah. I really don't want to watch these properties burn in the eternal flames of unfinished hell.@h0lgr said:
Man, Company of Heroes 2 needs to be taken care of. Can't bear to see that game drop off into nothingness.Hell yes! So there are still plenty of reasons to be concerned. Fuck, Relic really needs to find a proper new home.
