Drink a shot every time Jeff says "You Know" in this video.

Actually, don't. You'll die before the 30 minute mark.

All this time later and I finally picked it up. Funny enough playing overwatch so much led me to it. That battlenet launcher kept me eyeing it down. My curiosity finally broke me and I started the trial. I'm surprisingly having an okay time with it so far. I think I'll stick with it till I get to lv. 20 then see from there.

how the hell did i never see this

god i love that mop main menu theme... best xpack. damn half an hour into the video and the urge to resub is rising fast... watching him go trough the mechanics as a first timer really brings back nostalgic feelings as someone who has been playing on and off since 07. I'm totally with Jeff , questing in a busy area is a nightmare in any MMO, and now that WOW has the crossrealm zone feature it's gotten so much worse, since the wow leveling experience has been pretty much degraded to a single player path there should just be an option to "zone out" and get an instanced version of the area to quest in peace

The only MMO I've ever played is Star Trek Online for the simple reason I love Star Trek. Unfortunately STO is a pretty terrible game overall, but it's interesting to see how much it stole from WoW.

36 minutes in, talking about how unreasonable it would be to expect fully voiced quest dialogue. DCOU does this, and it's one of the reasons I loved that game. Get a mission, take off in the direction of the map arrow and Superman fills you in on the way.

Dan sneaks around the name filter then doubles down on calling Halo book readers huge nerds just to troll them. Classic Dan!

Dan and Jeff combo is the best.

Probably waaay too late to comment, but has anyone else noticed the lack of game audio as a problem in recent videos? Still fun to watch, just wondering what you guys think.

Wow, Dan wasn't kidding when he said he never played an MMO before. This is like watching someone pick up a controller for the first time. Really entertaining though.

Too bad they picked WoW. That game seems incredibly boring to me. I tried playing it 5 or 6 times since it launched, but I don't think I ever made it past level 15-20 or something like that. And I even remember that goddamn church and those woods.

Edit: And the 4 letter word MMO that Dan was talking about is probably Rift. People REALLY liked it for like 3 weeks.

Am I the only one that spent the first 10 minutes shouting SHAMAN!!! at the screen when Dan was asking for magic / melee lol. This stupid video series may cause me to relapse back to WoW...especially since Blizzard offered a free copy of MoP. DAMN YOU GIANT BOMB! lol

I'm guessing the name of the one-word MMO Dan was trying to remember was called Love. I played it briefly back when it was a paid thing; if I recall correctly, all player avatars were unique-looking but had incredibly vague features and the player had no control over how they looked or what they were named, but it was amazing seeing people work together cooperatively on battles and base-building.

I've never played an MMO and likley never will. I played a couple of hours of Diablo 1 (it was boring).

Please let me know how someone is SUPPOSED to know the information that everyone else is calling obvious? I read through all the comments on this video and didn't see a single reference to a central community, guide, book, anything! The "right thing to equip" thing being super obvious really bothered me. I played crgps (going back to Ultima 2 and stopping at Baldur's Gate and 2/neverwinter's night), and a bunch of JRPGs, I've never heard of that convention and I don't see why that should be obvious.

At least Dark/Demon souls make it clear that things will be obscure and require either trial and error or turning to a larger community to be playable. Am missing a fundamental information not included in the stream? Does the installer recommend a primer that new players can read? Or is this simply the case that this game is intended for people who played Everquest and AC before this?

You're referring to a bunch of games that are way more complex. The obvious things to wear in something like World of Warcraft kind of come down to a few things. You started with a 2 handed sword? Equip better 2 handed swords. You get armor, hover over it holding shift and if the numbers are better then the numbers of the thing you currently have equipped you equip the thing you found. It literally comes down to "Is Number A larger then Number B."

At some point Dan will level up and get a skill that says "Needs 2 Handed Sword to use" and then he's back on the right path as long as he reads the information provided to him. No need for everyone to panic about a half hour using a Staff.

I don't think Dan plays RPGs. A lot of single player RPGs have a very similar interface to WoW so being completely unfamiliar just makes me think he's not an RPG kind of person in general.

A Human Male and a Warrior on top of that, boo

Yeah, I think they picked the worst possible race/class combination. Goblins and Worgens (I presume Panda too) have really interesting starting zones and quests. Blizzard really raised the bar for MMOs in the expansions, this human stuff looks like it was barely updated.

I wish you never had to leave that Goblin island, I'd play a whole game of just that.

Such a great feature, I will defintely stick through all of these videos.

I always have been interested in WoW and MMO's in general, but the combat always feels like shit. Whenever I tried WoW I stuck with it for a few days and just ended up playing diablo since diablo actually had fun combat.

So, if Jeff isn't offering any advice I'm really confused as to why you seem to have disabled all the in-game tutorial popups. There aren't many of them and they do a good job of explaining the important UI bits and things like how to use skills and targeting that would make this much less painful to watch.

Fantastic idea. I really hope that Dan doens't just bail on it and sticks with WoW to max level.

I know that Dan wants to truely play the game and discover it himself, but I feel like Rorie could get him started on the right path on a mechanics level.

This almost makes me want to get into WoW again, since I never got past level 40 the first time I played it waaaaay back in the day.

But then I remember my new job is 60+ hours a week, and I simply have no time for a second life. Oh, well.

When was this recorded? How can Dan have the bingo conversation again as though it's never happened? Is this a joke? I mean other than that this video is great, but Dan and Jeff are having the exact same conversation they had on the bombcast and acting like they've never had it before.

Yea, I was watching this while dozing off and it really creeped me out to hear the same conversation almost verbatim from the podcast being spoken. Real weird.

Don't know which took place first in this case, but similiar situation has occured several times over the years. Maybe they just want to share it with people who only watch videos and don't listen to the bombcast/vice versa, or maybe they just have a really bad memory when it comes to some things.

Or chemtrails.

I believe Dan even pointed out in the podcast that they already had the bingo conversation in another video, so presumably this video was recorded before the podcast. It would only make sense to have the conversation again on the bombcast since the majority of podcast listeners aren't even premium members.

Yeah, sorry this just doesn't work with Jeff being the one that has to act like he knows what is going on when he VERY much does not. Dan of course can't stop himself from asking Jeff questions that Jeff has no chance of answering and just wings it. Get Rorie is in here for an episode to at least get Dan pointed in the right direction.

That's probably what they might do for the next episode, though to be fair, Jeff points out that he has very outdated information (that he barely remembers) and Dan acknowledged that he didn't want someone that knew everything.

Wow, I never played WoW and it's been many years since I took a look at it. It looks like garbage. Yikes. I know it's ten years old and I remember thinking it looked cool at the time it was released, but I would have figured there would have been a facelift or two along the way.

Once Dan gets into the more recent zones, from some of the newer expansions the game looks much better. Also they're currently in progress of updating all the player race models which all look fantastic.

He's playing the Starter Edition though, right? I thought you were capped at 20 in the Starter Edition. At least that's how it was for me when I played it. I was limited to like 2 zones before I was vastly under-leveled by other zones.
