@humanity: Yeah, and the piano version of the BC theme that plays in it! Overall, I'd say it wasn't one of my favorite games but it certainly doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

Edit: Also, apparently Giant Bomb's own Jeff Gerstmann gave it 4 stars.

It was a fun little game, 4 stars well deserved. Not 5, but a solid 4.

I really, really liked it, so much so that I will occasionally go back and play through it, and it is to this day the only game I've ever gone out of my way to platinum.

I still love the mechanics of the swinging, wonderfully unique and pretty intuitive to use. I remember playing it on the highest difficulty and getting stuck on the first boss for over an hour, eventually I had to up the sensitivity on the camera because I needed to be able to spin it faster to aim faster so I could move faster and swing faster. I got so damn good at that game for a while.

As much as I like it I could probably rant even longer about all the different issues it had. Invisible walls that killed you in dumb places, the cool idea of tying achievements to upgrades that was partially ruined by how they tied progression to checkpoints. Ditto the collectibles. The dumb frikkin' story, the underwhelming weapons that still would have been better if they gave any ammo for them ever. Locking many of the good arm upgrades to late in the game.

This is probably the dumbest and most unlikely game to ever wish for a spiritual successor to, but I really want to see the idea of that game done really right.

As for the game in the video, I'm sceptical due to my experience with coffee stain studios previous work, though I am probably more open to the idea of first person platforming than most. Catiously curious, is what I'd call me.

Wowwwwww that looks fucking good. Has potential to be terrible though. The music was fantastic.

Bionic Commando 2009 was the 3D Bionic Commando I was waiting for, I love love love that game and still play it regularly.

The hand animations really bother me. So poorly animated. Esp the lack of movement when you send out the electric rope or w/e.

I don't know. I'm neither feeling the sense of movement or swing speed to be "right". Maybe it's a different beast behind the controls, but looking at it feels very bland. The setting feels weirdly generic and the narration tells me nothing.

I got that feeling, too. It's like he loses inertia when he latches onto things to swing. It's just odd. And that Suezo-looking enemy at the end there was horrible.

I actually really liked the swinging mechanic in Bionic Commando. It took some effort to master and when you could pull off a perfect run, it was incredibly satisfying.
