Liking the ancient greek style of art, I'm oddly aware of the missing penises.

Man this is pretty.

So so hyped for this!

Art = SICK.

This just makes me want to play Rock of Ages.

Love the art design. Looks to still be very physics based like their first game. Hope the controls feel a bit tighter this time.

PixelArt games take note: this is a novel art style.

Holy hell! Now that is an aestheitc! Hot shit.

I think I found my soul mate. Hey don't judge me.

It seems like they really nailed the artstyle, it looks REALLY impressive.

Looks cool. Definitely would play.

Finally. 'Bout time we get a proper 2D Dark Souls. Sorry for the comparison to Dark Souls, everyone.

Yes. Man that was a hell of a thing.

This looks neat. Very Dark Souls but potentially pretty cool despite the obvious influence.

One of the coolest art styles I've ever seen. Not the biggest fan of Dark Souls combat, but if they really get the controls airtight, then I'll bite.

Seeing this makes me realize that Outland pulled a lot of ancient Greek-style for it's Aztec Tron look.

Hm, I just realised that I don't actually want to play this, I only want to look at it.

@development: i thought the same: 2d dark souls with funny graphics.

Wow, this art style is top notch.

Truth, right here.

I guess "careful and deliberate combat" is the new roguelike in the coming years. I can´t say I mind, and besides, the two are far from mutually exclusive.

This looks enticing.

It's a misconception that indies use pixel art because they're simply not creative. Many indies use pixel art because it's a feasible art style for programmers with no art experience. With minimal effort you can get it to look pretty good. Putting it way too simply: you're basically rearranging a handful of pixels until you get the desired shapes. No one making their first game is going to hit levels close to these,

but you can get good at making a satisfying art style without paying for an artist or training yourself for countless months... or -- even worse -- trying your hand at non-pixel-art and making some truly hideous squiggles.

edit: fuck trying to format this mess

I remember playing this at PAX East 2013 and wondered what happened to it. Beautiful game, though I think i remember the controls being a little tough for me.

For those into the art style Kill Screen has an interview up in which the devs focus on that aspect of the game. http://killscreendaily.com/articles/apotheon-brings-greek-art-digital/

@development: Actually, my conception (mis or otherwise) comes mostly from those games that have intentionally blocky/low-resolution art and present it as stylish.

Posted by development

@veektarius: I donno 'bout that. By my guess, I'd have to imagine the ratio of people deciding to do it purely for style and those who do it because it's what they know is like 1:20.

I am very intrigued! Art and combat have me sold already. I dug the music too... hopefully that is straight from game.

Posted by Xpgamer7

This game feels excellent. The fast pace made it intense, but It's a come for the art stay for the gameplay experience.

Looks like Outland without the light mechanic and set in ancient Greece. Sign me up!! Not enough people played Outland. I thought it was a fantastic and beautiful game.

Posted by aCTito

Very very pretty. Ill keep my eyes peeled for this.

Cant believe this art style hasn't been done before! Looks bloody awesome!

I played Outland! Great underrated game.

As a man who dearly loves the Disney movie Hercules, I love this aesthetic! Right out of the graphic presentations from the movie during the musicals.

Goddamn next gen consoles and their exclusives that make you want to buy them.

This looks good anyway, Outland meets Volgaar the Viking.... meets Okami?
