Armored Core: Verdict Day Ushers in a Mechpocalypse

@courage_wolf: The Madcat.Timberwolf was pretty obviously supposed to be a Marauder crossed with a Catapult, thus the name Mad cat. The Marauder was based on a Japanese cartoon mecha called a Zentraedi Glaug Combat Pod (Or Zentraedi Officer's Battle pod if you do Robotech). It was an alien warmachine piloted by a 35 foot tall giant alien clone warrior. The Catapult was originally in the Battletech 3025 Tech readout ands was a barely disguised redraw of the Marauder with LRM missle launchers instead of the gun arms and the back cannon.

Despite the fact that their last satisfying outing was AC4 (and ACV to some extent), I've always loved the Armored Core series. For some reason I've always found the games quite challenging in single player, which is something I can't say for too many games these days. I think it's something about the controls; they've always seemed a bit broken to me. By this I mean that there have always been just a couple too many controls to fit on a controller ergonomically, but this somehow make me like it more. I just don't get it...

Those are pretty dumb too but nothing beats "For Answer" for me.

I love that From continues to make these games, because Armored Core seems like a series that should have died out due to a lack in interest a long time ago.

They lost me after AC4, sadly. The controls in that game were insane and I could never come up with a comfortable configuration that allowed me to do everything that I needed to do at the same time. I didn't bother with AC5 once I heard that it was multiplayer focused because I knew that it would never generate a community large enough to make that interesting, even though I think that an Armored Core game with some serious online component would be amazing.

I dunno. Maybe it's time to give the series another shot? If you can hook me like you did with Silent Line . . .

Armored Core games have the DUMBEST subtitles. The worst game title ever hands down has to be Armored Core: For Answer. It's so infuriatingly nonsensicle.

If this is what AC: For Answer was to AC4, then i'm extremely interested.

Really though, I doubt its going to be very different unfortunately. The mech designs in 5 are also way worse than 4, its just a big metal cube, AC4 was much more slick and awesome looking.

Still, if they can do the online properly this time, it could be pretty interesting.

Armored Core: ReVerdication.

The first couple seconds made me think of AC5's online only-ness. I really just want to play this series solo. Its too hard to balance for multiplayer so why make it the focus of the game? its fine if there is an optional clan based mode wich could essentially be how AC5 turned out. but I want a solid solo experience in my Armored core.

I just picked up For Answer again today and I still think it's a great game, and the best in the series. I picked up 5 when it was released and then returned it because that game was fucking terrible. I don't play competitive multiplayer any more. Period. I also don't play on Xbox Live because fuck paying for access to half of a game that I've already bought on a system that I've bought with a service that I pay for monthly as is. So when those are combined, I wound up in a cycle in AC5 where I couldn't progress in missions because I didn't have the right equipment. However, I couldn't get the right equipment because I couldn't progress in missions. I also couldn't get any help in those missions because of a lack of a vital feature. The entire design behind AC5 was flawed right out of the gate. So until they fix this, I have no desire to pick up another one of these games.

Now that I think about it... Why aren't these games on PC? It'd be a perfect fit. Custom controls... Two joy sticks loaded with buttons, two peddles... Yeah. That's how these games should be played. The Oculus Rift would just be a cherry on top at that point.

I just hope they flesh out the single player experience compared to ACV. Barely played any of it because the solo play was super weak compared to previous games, and had no interest in hurling myself against the multiplayer wall. Was a little iffy on some of the combat changes they made, too, but I could live with those if there was actually some meat for me to sink my teeth into, solo-wise.

Ya I've got a soft spot for Armored Core. It's been with me since PS1. Last I had was For Answer. Didn't like it as much as AC4. Problem with AC4 was I chose the fast , light mech and never upgraded a single part for it from the store. I think I got a plasma sword for a mission reward and thats all I equipped.

Missed out on 5 completely.

So is this like a standalone expansion to AC V? The logo at the end makes it seem that way. Also, I can't wait to see a PS4/720 From Software game. Either AC or Dark Souls, I don't care.

I'm kind of stupidly excited for this because it looks like the game Armored Core V should have been but wasn't.

Cross my fingers that this improves AC5. Chromehounds 3-faction model, easier matchmaking, incentivize the online.

It's weird that they keep making multiple games with the same number. They've even been doing it more consistently than Assassin's Creed, I think, both Armored Core 2 and 4 and now 5 have had multiple entries with the same number, but different subtitles. That's just confusing.

I still dislike that they removed the first person view, but other than that, it's a pretty alright mech series. Not exactly MechWarrior though.

I hope it has enough improvements over 5. The online focus made the rest of the game rather weak and the online didn't work out right either.
