EDIT: The gameplay of Left 4 Dead combined with the 'out-there' and occasionally over the top style of Yakuza actually sounds pretty interesting. Note the final screencap boasts "15 hostess guns" and "8 hostess outfits".

P.S. Quest Yay!

This game looks like it'll play fairly poorly, but I'll buy it for full price anyway because I'm fucking crazy like that when it comes to the Yakuza series...

I still think it sucks that they stole one of the few possible names for Demon's Souls 3.

Oddly enough I am interested in this. The music for the video was good.

I wonder if there will be Heat moves in this game, or if you can place giant fish heads on the heads of zombies and slap them around.

Zombies... how original! *sigh*

Posted by FoxMulder

hmm... the shooting really sucked in Yakuza from what I remember. I've always been meaning to come back to the series, but only if I can get the games for super cheap!

Next Endurance Run?

spiritual successor to dark souls?

More excited for this game than I probably should be. Gonna be awesome!

I played the Japanese demo, and there are. It lets you do special headshots, or auto-target explosive barrels and other junk...It was cool and presented in slow-motion, so better than I'm making it sound. They often involved the same kind of QTEs that would be in the heat moves in the other games.

I wanna say there's going to be melee combat too, but don't quote me on that.

god...damn it

Zombies? In a video game?

I guess it could work. Pretty strange idea though.

This game can work out if it turns out like Deadly Premonition(without the shitty combat mechanics), i just can't imagine the normal Yakuza game mixed with Dead Rising. They also need to improve the enviroment graphics, the characters look fine tho.

The shooting is naturally going to be radically different from how it was approached in previous Yakuza games. I mean here it's at the forefront, while for previous Yakuza games they were just weapons weaved into the brawler gameplay, much like how guns worked for games like Die Hard Arcade for example. Not to say that the shooting for Dead Souls looks like it'll be that great, but it's going to be a massive improvement over the few times they dallied with shooting in previous entries.

There kinda has to be really. They're as much a staple of the series as Kamurocho or Kazuma; only difference is they'll be based around gun combat more so than melee, though hopefully yes, you can totally still place giant fish heads on the heads of zombies and slap them around.

It looks kinda "clunky", but this should be fun.

I'm not worried about the zombie apocalypse because it's going to happen in Japan. I guaran-fucking-tee it.

Posted by BisonHero

Why can you aim towards the camera? ...WHY CAN YOU AIM TOWARDS THE CAMERA?

Goddammit, Japan, you make game design so much harder than it has to be.

Posted by REVULSIVE

So from what I gather, it'll have awkward and clunky gameplay and a crazy dumb presentation. Wait, is that a minigun arm? HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORK?!

Posted by m16mojo2

OKAY, Everyone stop buying zombie games, DLC, etc. This has to fucking stop!

Posted by McShank

What is that damn song!! I cant find it anywhere >.<

Posted by AjayRaz

Ryuji and Kaz working together? nonsense!

looks clunky but kinda fun. kinda. i'll wait it out and see how this one is. seems kinda silly that it doesn't feature local/online multiplayer.. or at least that's the vibe it's giving me?

Posted by AjayRaz

@McShank: Shazam tells me it's "The friend in me" by Blair Booth.

Posted by RageKage14

This game would be better if it just had the brawler combat from all of the other Yakuza games. The shooting mechanics look pretty awful based on other gameplay videos I have seen.

Posted by RageKage14

If they can bring this Yakuza spinoff game to the US, why can't they bring Ryu ga Gotoku: Kenzan! which is arguably the best Yakuza game of them all?

looks fun!

Zombie apocalypse, still hostess clubs. Yeah, makes sense to me.

Protip: The game isn't taking itself seriously.

So.... are there still hostess clubs in this one?

There better be hostess clubs. Do the right thing, Sega.

I like Sega's recent crop of trailers. Between this and their Binary Domain one, they're getting really good at marrying compelling music with great imagery. Someone at SEGA has learned a thing or two from Gears of War's Mad World ad. I hope both games - particularly Binary Domain (it reminds me of Vanquish) - do well here in the West.

How much bancho soul can I distribute in this game?

@m16mojo2:

No.

I have never heard of this game until now, but it looks fucking amazing. Why is this the first time I've seen anything for it?!

Wow, same here. Looks like it's from some of the folks behind the Yakuza games as well. That comes out really soon for something I hadn't heard a single thing about.

I still need to play 3 and 4. They sound lengthy.

The safest thing to do during a zombie outbreak is to go to the hostess club and play karaoke.

One word: Trophies

Yakuza game's are cheaply localized. They get phenomenal translation work, but the actual logistics of localizing these games are not that complex. They're subtitled, there's not a whole lot of work things under-the-hood, and if something is simply deemed "too complicated", for reasoning that still doesn't make sense with Yakuza 3, the content is axed.
For example: One of the main reasons the AnswerXAnswer games were not put in the western releases, was because it would have taken too long to make new 2D graphics for the new questions

Forget the crazy "cultural differences" excuse and think of the technical logistics, more importantly, apply those logistics to how much Sega want's to pay for a localization.

Kenzan! Doesn't have trophies. It came out ten months before Sony made trophies mandatory. There would have to be time spent, under-the-hood, to add trophies and localize the game.
For some perspective: Metal Gear Solid 4 never got a trophy patch
So what would have to happen is that Sega would take the time to localize a game, that takes place in Japan during the 1600's, and they would have to spend money on re-engineering a part of the game. That's probably not going to happen.

Now, what could happen, would be a re-release of previous Yakuza games.
Yakuza 1-2-Kenzan in a giant compilation "HD-Pack" of sorts. That way they could release in Japan, with a similar localization plan that they implement now, plus they don't have to bother with doing "anything special" for territories outside of Japan.
