E3 2012: From High Rock to Black Marsh, It's The Elder Scrolls Online

When I first heard of this I was really skeptical. The more I hear about it though my feeling has turned more to a cautiously optimistic one. I've already pre-purchased and played Guild Wars 2 though, so I highly doubt any subscription MMO is gonna tear me away from that.

Do they think by not showing the game, they're going to fool everyone into thinking it's the Elder Scrolls Online that they want?

I don't know what you guys are talking about, that trailer was awesome. First there was axe man then there was magic elf lady and then there was bow dude, you know, Elder Scrolls shit.

Time and money were spent on this video.

This is not the online Elder Scrolls I or anyone else wants. This will end badly for them.

I echo the sentiments here - in a world of pointless game trailers, that was one of the more pointless.

FUCK YEAH!!! After all the bad press and backpedaling that has been done as Bethesda attempts to tell you "it's more than just another MMO" and "Don't worry, the Hero engine is cool!!1!" this is the trailer they needed. Fuck gameplay!!! SHOW ME SO CG STUFF!!!! That'll stop the haters!!!!!!!!!!!! TAKE MY MONEY!

Is it weird that I still look forward to the day where gameplay looks as good as prerendered trailers even though I know the logistics behind why that is a dream that will probably never happen?

It's as if they want you to forget about this game... hmmm.

The thing that bugs me the most is how the elf looked. If this were a proper Elder Scrolls game, there's no way an elf's face could be that dissimilar to a fish. FALSE ADVERTISING.

Also, that was a super-dramatic door. They should have put a spoiler warning before it.

Literally nothing about this looked anything like TES in any way, shape or form.

This looks like it was designed back when the marketing team expected people to be excited about the initial announcement of TES Online. If the rest of the marketing campaign was also designed back then, I will enjoy watching as these media releases get increasingly dissonant with their target audience... whoever the fuck they might be at this point.

god I hope an MMO doesn't take down yet another perfectly good game company

@Saethir: It's not as weird as you think, because the software they use to make prerendered 3D videos is starting to incorporate rendering in real-time and that would be the ultimate goal. It's still a long ways off from being nearly as good as the non-real time renderers though.

It's funny, prerendered 3D footage is trying to reach real-time rendering and video games and the like are trying to meet prerendered visual quality. Someday, they will meet in the middle.

CG trailers... they're good for absolutely nothing! Say it again ya'll! WAAAA !

That was it? a video trailer? ......... I could use some more gameplay footage to be sold on this one...

Somehow that made me less interested.

I know it's a different art style but that elf lady looked very different to the typical Elder Scrolls elves.

Really? They couldn't even get the cg trailer to look like an Elder Scrolls game? Talk about managing expectations.

If this was a teaser for Lord of the Rings Online 2, I would believe it.

My reaction to about 85 percent of all videos coming out of E3 has been "This is not what I wanted".

But that last 15 percent...Mmm.

Well, not if you count all the mods that "make elves prettier" or "remove blocky faces".. some people just want generic fucking fantasy with boobs and pretty faces- and it seems Zenimax online has heard their call.

If it still kinda is like an Elder Scrolls game, I´m interested. At least in exploring the world. But I don´t think anybody is really hyped for this game yet.

This concept continues to disappoint, I'm mostly just sad we'll have to wait longer for the next real game in the series now.

Why? This is made by a different studio than the regular games.
