Im calling it- Night vision goggles AND dragging bodies in this one.

This looks really awesome, i just hope they dont take forever with it like conviction. The improved mark and execute looks super fluid - this game is the best news ive heard of so far this e3!

As long as I can do that stuff without Kinect I'll be fine

Posted by Rohok

Wow, they really do want to fuck the Tom Clancy IP right in the ass, don't they?

I don't know if I can take this seriously with Sam's new voice. Is it like a 007 thing, where Sam Fisher is just the name of whoever the agent is at that time? Cause that's not Sam from the first games. He sounds like a kid.

Posted by Lightningproof

I admit it: I thought the 'Hey, you!' thing was kind of neat.

Edited by Itwastuesday

All they talk about is the new ways to kill people. All Sam Fisher does now is kill people. Press y to EXECUTE and watch some sick pre-animated shots of Sam knifing up dudes which you have no control over. This game probably isn't for me.

Did they nix Michael Ironside? Didn't sound like him but it's hard to tell...

Sadly... ditto :(

What is this? And why is it called Splinter Cell?

Darkness and shadows, Michael Ironside, a specialized arsenal, a slower pace. That's Splinter Cell. This looks like Just Cause 2 or Mercenaries. Even if they changed voice actors, that doesn't even look like Sam Fisher. This looks like a reboot, but they're claiming it's a direct sequel. Metal Gear Rising: Reveangence makes more sense, and that's saying something.

Posted by ChaosTony

WTF where is Michael Ironside!? Please tell me that's a placeholder voice :O

Posted by Rabid619

Really sad to see Ironside gone, seemed like the voice actress for Grimm is gone too, which is incredibly unfortunate. Since the first game those two have been a big part of Splinter Cell for me. However, the game still looks fun.

It's not "Hard to tell" at all! This guy sounds NOTHING like Michael Ironside. SCREW THIS GAME!

Splinter Cell is not about body count...

so, there is bullet time now?

It looks like a must get.

Leaning out of cover to shoot an AK. No silencer and in broad daylight. Whaaaaat the fuck. That's about as far as you could get from the first game.

Oh god. Instant buy.

So what?

Posted by Octaslash

As much as I'll miss the old Splinter Cell, I'll be happy to play the sequel to Conviction. However, I hope Ubisoft is just fucking with us and this new, younger sounding character ends up not being the "real" Sam Fisher. Michael Ironside is the real Sam Fisher.

Posted by NTM

This looks fantastic, the camera view looks a little more like how the originals did, but it's an enhanced version of Conviction game play.

Posted by BigBoss1911

Fuck this.

Edited by mikeeegeee

@SnakeEyes327: It's disappointing and it contains none of the spirit of the original games. I'm exaggerating based on a small amount of footage, but graphically, functionally, and tonally, this looks way too similar to the newest Ghost Recon game.

Some will reply, "don't play it," and I won't, but I will still express how chagrined I am at how little Tom Clancy games resemble their former selves. Good for Ubi for cashing in, but I won't be a part of it. And I definitely won't be surprised when the new Rainbow Six doesn't even resemble the Vegas series, but instead gravitates even further toward commonplace.

I learned everything I need to know about this game from the first one minute and thirty seconds of this video. Unless they make drastic changes, I can tell quite obviously that this is not what I want from Splinter Cell.

Maybe someday they'll return to the roots of the series. But I guess the old fanbase just isn't who they're aiming to please now. Or maybe I'm just a grumpy asshole.

Posted by kishinfoulux

Holy shit this looks awesome. Fuck the haters.

Ironside will be missed though. :-/

yes can't Imagine Sam voiced by other than Ironside ... is like Snake without Hayter

Nope. Sadly you're not.

Glad you were able to make a judgement call on a vertical slice demo designed to market a game to the mass media. Nice work chief, real informed decision you made there.

Posted by firecracker22

I was really feeling this game, but Michael Ironside being out as Sam seems...wrong to me. Wrong on so many levels. I mean, I've been a fan since the very fist one. And over the years, alot of Splinter Cell fans have felt betrayed. Either with Double Agents' sun drenched level designs, or Hobo Sam, or then Sam's push towards more action in Conviction.

It's almost like Ubisoft is trying to shake off the last few series veterans like myself by stinging us with an Ironside-less game.

It is a little different than the Hitman/ Agent 47 situation, since it appears that Ironside has given his blessing...but still. I dunno, still feels wrong to me.

Posted by firecracker22

@mikeeegeee: True.

But, part of me is holding out hope that the level they showed was a slice of the first/tutorial level where they show us the ropes of the action options.

As long as I CAN ghost most of the levels in the game, I'll be happy.

I'm more worried about Ironside and Sam, and how that could drastically change the entire chemistry we fans had with the character. I can see ALOT of good lines, and jokes, just falling flat because Ironside isn't the one voicing them.

Posted by WiredFolf

I do hope the Sam voice in this is purely for the demo. A Splinter Cell game with Micheal Ironside is just... wrong.

I'm glad you agree. Also, it's based on their last few attempts at the series and seeing what they have shown already looks pretty much like the last game which they turned into just another shooter. Seems that's the direction they want to take the series. Still holding out hope the spy's vs merc online is the same as it used to be, because that was always the best part of that series.

You realize that the reason they changed the formula was because with each new game, they sales got lower and lower right? It was only when they decided to do something different that there was any spike, and that happened with Conviction. The original style of stealth gameplay doesn't generate sales. So why would they ever go back to what you came made the series "stand out"?

I am aware of their reason, but as a fan of the original games I don't care why they did it. The reason I enjoyed the originals was because of the stealth combat. There are things they could have done to change how it worked in the past while still keeping that slower, methodical, mind game puzzle feel to it that made the games so great in their time. Now it's just another modern military shooter with an emphasis on better animated take down kills. I don't want that in my Splinter Cell games, and I'm going to voice that dislike when and where I can because sadly that's all I can do.

Sorry you disagree so tremendously.

You missed the point entirely of why the demo is structured the way it is and why it's stupid to judge a game on that alone.

It's supposed to be a stealth game. When they choose to first show it and all they do is run around like a gears of war game shooting guys what else am I supposed to think they are doing to the series? If they started out by saying "Hey guys. You can still totally stealth your way through this game, but for the sake of a quick demo you can just run around mindlessly shooting guys!" there would be no problem. That's what they did with the new Hitman game.

If they really cared about the stealth aspect of the game during development then they would have taken a moment to point out that it's still in the there by taking a minute or two during the demo to show that you can still play like that. But they didn't. They just ran around shooting guys talking about how cool it is to run around shooting guys with machine guns, and from the level they choose to show the game for the first time it looked pretty linear and like there was only one way to go about doing things.

I don't know if it's my new HD monitor, but all these games look amazing graphically!

I'll be a bit brash and say no Ironside, no interest in the game.
