Wow. The palette swap was a surprise.

So, what's the time until 1-1 on this?

Edited by jtotheotothestothee

does this confirm teri hatcher's breasts as usable assets?

So, what's the time until E1M1 on this?

I bet it will be included.

@krabboss: Fine then; time until weed leaves and Coke logos.

I hope it has other palette swaps in it than just those two. I'd love to make/see some Super Mario World or Super Mario 3 levels. Still, pretty neat.

wouldnt be as cool if it was more than palette swaps and also changed the physics to match those games

NINTENDO BEING INTERESTING!

Posted by Korolev

That's neat. I can see Nintendo fans getting a big kick out of this. One more thing to checkout when I eventually get a WiiU (which will be whenever the new Zelda game comes out and not one day before. Sorry)

@tredik: Mario replaced with Drake, mushrooms become diet coke.

What the "talking over nintendo event" already on? Cant find an archive.

So like Mario Paint. Got it.

Awesome.

I sincerely don't understand what's so great about this.

Edited by JackSukeru

Mario 1 is not a particularly interesting platformer or game by today's standards so I'm really surprised by the level of hype this thing has gotten. Still, the tools look easy to use and there are not winged Goombas in the original so maybe they are doing enough interesting things with it to set it apart.

You can make penis-shaped towers probably?

Posted by smcn

@jacksukeru: Consider that in every game in which you can create your own levels, there are twenty billion versions of 1-1. Mario Maker will complete the cycle, in which the first level from every other game will be made in the style of SMB.

Posted by Tally_Pants

This looks amazing! I'm not too much of a tinkerer, but I would be buying this to play all of the crazy custom levels the community will be making for this!

If this game doesn't have a sort of community sharing ability..then I'm not actually interested.. but still very impressed!

So I can make my own Mario Kaizo games? Awesome.

Yes please.

I'm getting closer and closer to buying a Wii u

Isn't this just them admitting they can't do anything else with Mario games?

"Fuck it! You guys make our games now!"

Edited by joelghill

This tickles me in a way a Nintendo game hasn't in a long while. Now give me Zelda and Metroid editing tools!

Edit: I just realized that this is only super awesome if we can share our creations with others in a seamless manner. Excitement back down to cautiously optimistic...

Posted by Druminator

This is a really cool idea that I can't believe didn't happen years ago.

Posted by Xymox

Really don't see why there wouldn't be a 3DS version of this...

I gotta join in on the chorus, really. Nothing about this seems like it'd be appealing to anyone. Romhackers already have some damned good Mario editing tools, and most people are content to just play the games. I don't see why we need a Mario Paint-type program that lets us slap together levels.

Same here, but I also have zero love or nostalgia for anything Mario. I'm sure people will create amazing things with this, just not for me. I also predict that Gerstmann will spend way less time with this than he things he will.

My first reaction was "oh wow, cool".

Then I thought about the reality of the likelihood I would want to make levels or play other people's levels...

Then thought "well... poop".

I can Vinny's Law!

Posted by Etrips3

Best idea ever! Kinda brings my childhood back to life as I remember I drew quite a lot of levels on paper back in the day =)

Posted by freakin9

I still haven't played most of the original levels in Super Mario Brothers 1.

1-1, 1-2, hit the warp pipe, either go after the infinite 1-ups or hit the warp in world 4 to the the last world and then kill Bowser.

Done and done.

Haha, yeah. Remember LittleBigPlanet? Remember just how FEW great levels that game resulted in?

Posted by Shakezula84

Ok. This is the game that makes me want a WiiU. Looks like I will try and get one for xmas now.

Posted by Washa_Endrya

This would be great for 3DS, but Nintendo needs to move some Wii U hardware. I totally understand.

LBP was alright, though it DID kinda live off the fact people were blatantly ripping off other games. Not so much because of a rash of clever level design. Which I think I played maybe... 2?... of.

Posted by NickNitro

So basically SMB rom hacks made easy?

Posted by Aleksandr

Looks interesting … but the harsh shadow on 2D and kind of ugly 3D is a bit disappointing.

Posted by soupbones

I'm gonna make a level shaped like Bowser's dick.

Dat MARIO PAINT font.

Posted by OrdinaryPanda

When I was a kid in the 80s, for some reason I loved to draw Mario levels (also Zelda and Metroid) on graph paper. It is a pretty safe bet I will be buying this day one.

The LBP controls were awful, floaty, and not very fun to play. Designing a 'good level' for that game was impossible.

I'm still confused why people are so excited over what is essentially a ROM hacking tool.

Posted by IcyEyes

Cool idea, but those "updated" graphics look worse then the original. And why is there a grid on the background and tile embossing?!?

Edited by redefaulted

Come on now, guys. I mean, it looks great, but "game of the show?" Maybe if they would have dived deeper in, but the little they showed wasn't that great.

All I know is, they better have a palette/physics swap to Super Mario World as well. I don't care for the original look, nor the new one either.

@video_game_king My guess would be that its a mainstream one. ROM hacks are cool and all, but only a small amount of people actually use them. With this title, it will be (hopefully) a popular title with lots of people making cool stuff for it.

Its on Wii U and its only letting you do like 5 screen lengths? Jesus!
