Dear GB,

Please try harder - this was a meandering mess. What was the point of this?

I say this with love. :(

Posted by SgtSphynx

Glad to see I'm not the only person disappointed @alex didn't jump through the boss doors.

Love this game. Love this Bombastica.

This is one of the first games I can remember truly obsessing over as a child. Trying to work out the best stage paths was all a seven-year-old boy like me really needed at the time. :)

Keep up the good work, guys!

I thought everyone knew that you were supposed to jump through the boss doors.

Posted by HerbieBug

Oh man it's been so long since I've seen this played at normal speed. This game is on regular rotation still amongst the speedrun streaming community but it's a totally different game when those folks play it. :D

Fantastic, and Alex did better than I expected (well, aside from not jumping at boss doors).

Do young kids think these kinds of games are stupid?

Edited by Jeverage

If you were a Canadian kid in the 90's, Crash Man's theme might ring a bell for you:

Everyone knows megaman 3 had the best music. That title track cant be beat

You should play this game on 'difficult'! Normal mode is a actually a special easy mode designed for the North American release because Capcom thought we couldn't take the heat.

Of course the hardest parts in Mega man have always been the jumping puzzles and I think those are the same.

Edited by quark79

There are still heroes left in man and their names are Alex Navarro and Vinny Caravella.

I loved the Gummi Bears!

Posted by sodapop7

I would not be opposed to one of these for every NES Mega Man game. I'd also like to see the X-series also but it seems neither of them are too into those games.

Edited by pocketroid

I start with Quickman every time. I love that stage, love the Quick Boomerang. I wish it was in every game.

Edited by famicom601

Man, Vinny talking about all these cartoons I watched during my childhood. So nostalgic now.

Posted by sodapop7

@ruckus_ahoy: How was this a mess? The only complaint I can think of is that they could have beaten it given 15 more minutes or so.

Posted by EVO

I also pronounced Quinoa wrong until just recently.

Posted by futurstock

a feature much like vinny's eternal struggle against Dracula,
but with Alex playing through entire megaman games,
simply called... " Wolfman "

i was impressed with your megaman skill and knowledge ive played allot of megaman games and they all bleed together i would not remember what order to go in

Disgusting! I don't know if i should watch this now.

I'm kidding of course. But yeah, who doesn't jump then, that's the whole point of the game.

@sodapop7: I wouldn't have appreciated some research, tighter editing, historical context, anything useful on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of a classic. A wasted opportunity. Unless the presenters/editors/writers aren't being paid for your insights and passion, in which case, as you were!

Great timing on this, I just picked this up and have been playing through it for the first time on 3DS virtual console. I always thought these games had a reputation for being super hard, so I've being playing it with save points like a coward. I've also not been taking advantage of the items and didn't realize the checkpoints and item drops were so generous.

I managed to get through Quickman's stage without the time stopper by utilizing save points. You have to preemptively hit the direction you want to go before moving on to the next screen.

Thanks Alex and Vinny. Maybe I'll give this a shot without the virtual console cheats once I beat Wily the cheap way.

@jeverage Oh man, the Memories!

Posted by Eldrien

For those interested, here's a speedrun of Megaman 2 from AGDQ2014. Looks like the Quickman stage is done in a similar way... just harder! The stage starts about 15:15.

More great content from Giant Bomb East! Alex is really good at the Encyclopedia Bombasticas.

You seem new, as that isnt usually their modus operandi. Not to imply anything they do is bad. Just that they usually play a game and talk about what they feel at the time or if they have any history with it.

@jeverage: Oh my god I'm nostalgia-ing so hard right. IT'S LETTER TIME IT'S LETTER TIMMMMME

Edited by CaLe

I HAVE NEVER PLAYED MEGA MAN.

Posted by MocBucket62

I can never get past the First Dr. Wily Stage whenever I try playing this again on my Wii, damn dragon! Its still one hell of a game though and I enjoyed the Alex/Vinny pairing for this bombastica!

Minibosses' Megaman 2 medley is probably the first video game remix track I ever heard. It's still so, so good.

Thank you for introducing me to these guys ;)

Edited by falling_fast

i really like the dynamic they've got going on here. also obviously this game is totally sweet, and i fucking suck at it.

oh god, vinny's gummi bears thing is hysterical. i also can't tell if he's making this shit up

Edited by paulunga

Meh, Zero pretty much IS the same shit as Protoman. I don't really care about Alex getting any of that stuff wrong, Mega Man lore is bullshit anyway.

I still want a Legends 3 though. ;_;

And this is the best original series song. Wily Stage 1&2 is good, but overrated.

Posted by eddiephlash

It is so great to see some of my favorite internet people playing some of my favorite games. Thanks for this vid and all you guys do!

@alex Vinny speaks the truth.

@alex

Did you get that level sequence from Nintendo Power? (Airman-Crashman-Metalman-Bubbleman-Heatman-Woodman-FlashMan-Quickman)

I've always used the exact same one and I swear that was where I learned it back in the day.

Huh, literally never heard anyone posit 3 over 2. I like it too though!

Posted by remixrunixlp

Vinny singing the Gummy Bears theme song just warmed my soul.

Edited by MeatSim

I am glad they brought in Gummi Bears Editor Vinny Caravella for this Bombastica.

Posted by Jordan_Mallory

Scanlines look great, not sure if that's the Retron or if y'all have an in-line generator but it's an appreciated addition to these sorts of videos.

Posted by soupbones

@vinny @alex Am I totally crazy or am I seeing SCAN LINES in this video? Like, CRT, old school. warm and fuzzy feeling scan lines?

That's awesome.

Edited by KaneRobot

I hate it when people commenting on a gameplay video talk about how something made out to be hard on a video is actually not that hard... but yeah, that Quickman stage isn't that hard, even without the flash weapon. You can see where he hesitated every time.

This concludes my most dickheadish post in site history.

Posted by Brainling

Why did they do Air Man first? You always do Metal Man first, he has the most generally useful weapon in the game!

Posted by ninkendo

Decided to see how far I could get in the game while this video played. Beat the game at exactly 47 minutes into the video. Do more Mega Man games!

Edited by rcath

best game ever

Edited by mrsmiley

Um... the Woodman that Vinny talks about in the beginning of the video sounds terrifying. :(

Posted by ToTheNines

Mega Man 4 was the first Mega Man game I played and subsequently also my favorite. I mean the title theme makes me want to play it right at this moment.

Posted by Dan_CiTi

Mega Man 9 was a rad game.

Posted by nells81

Next up, Chip and Dale, Ducktales and/or Darkwing Duck on NES??

Edited by Brackynews

It took a few tries for me to remember the pattern, but I don't think I've ever used the freeze on Quickman's stage: (and no I didn't turn on sound recording). The protip is never jump. That means you have the pattern wrong.

@jeverage: I was and I do! Oh Picholas.

Posted by dagas

I played this so much in my childhood.
