This game was rocking back in the day.

Just as I finish the Powerbombcast.

This game ruled when I was 8, and it always will.

Doesn't the WWE have a pay-per-view event each weekend?

audio sync issue?

A hot LJN jam

Hey everyone! There does appear to be an ever-so-slight sync issue between my mouth and the words coming out of it in this vid. I tried to get rid of it a few times but couldn't without just rerecording the whole thing, and it's so minor that I figured it wouldn't be a huge deal. Just wanted to note it here so you know I'm aware of it. No idea why that happened this time and not with other videos I've made.

+400 in VLC sorts the delay out.

What is it with Alex and wrestling games.

Posted by fuzzybunny566

I rented this game soooooo many times from Blockbuster (SNES version), and it's definitely my favourite wrestling game ever. It's also fun to totally exploit the Royal Rumble match, and I can still easily grapple, irish whip and toss each opponent out of the ring without interruption. Also, I will always appreciate the simplicity of the special moves, as a correctly timed R button will do the trick.

That one time Lex Luger won the WCW title against Hogan on Nitro. That was pretty great.

Man that roster was depressing. So many deceased.

There's gonna be some trouble tonight..a very Royal Rumble, that's right!

Posted by DKWildz

Useless fun fact pertaining to me! I won the June 1993 'grand prize' in Nintendo Power, and was able to attend WWF SummerSlam in August of that year.

Issue 55 (December '93) is there they posted the little blurb on it. I got to play WWF Royal Rumble against Tatanka and Scott Hall (Razor Ramon), of course kicking their asses, cause why would they know anything about nintendo games back then? Had a picture of Sean Waltman's early character '1-2-3 Kid', and a turnbuckle signed by a bunch of guys. I'll have to track all that stuff down

I recall Tatanka being insanely over during his first run. He actually returned to WWE for a few months I believe in the 2000s and was still decently over. He was an average wrestler at best but he could rally a crowd pretty good, early in his career all of his matches kinda blended together. But I remember his last big WWE run he actually did quite a bit in the ring(will verify once WWE network is up and running lol).

I'm kinda sad this isn't a look at the classic version of Royal Rumble for the Dreamcast.

Edited by Kevin_Cogneto

I love that it was once someone's job to draw and animate a 16-bit Howard Finkel.

Also I can never see Tatanka without remembering the scene in Natural Born Killers where Rodney Dangerfield is watching a Tatanka match and screaming "Kill the fucking Indian!"

Also also, it's interesting to hear Alex say The Narcissist was his least favorite Lex Luger thing, since in my opinion it was the only brief moment in his career where he was even the slightest bit interesting.

Sting tonight, I'm calling it.

Man, Papa Shango looks just like Papa Emeritus from Ghost.

He already did an Encyclopaedia Bombastica on that game a while back.

Edited by North6

Oh man, I remember this. Nice stuff Alex, keep it up with these.

@dkwildz: Please do! And make a blog post about it!

Posted by Y2Ken

Aw man, Alex covering more hot classic wrasslin' titles? And at the weekend as well? You do spoil us, good sir!

Posted by Voysa_Reezun

I have the Genesis version of Royal Rumble, which if I recall has a slightly different roster than the SNES version (Duggan, Hogan, Martel, Shango instead of DiBiase, Flair, and a couple other guys). Good times. RAW was also a super-fun game at the time, and it had the benefit of having hidden mega moves for each character too.

Edited by groundbeef

One of my favorite games from the 16-bit era, wrestling or otherwise. I played those Royal Rumbles for hours.

RIP half the roster... =(

Surprise Bombastica!

Edited by ShaggE

I wasn't into rasslin' in '93 (in fact, my interest in it burgeoned and died between '97 and '00), so I skipped this one, but I put an embarrassing amount of hours into Wrestlemania 2000 on the 64. Man, that game was so good. (and fuck Ken Shamrock. I swear he had ultra-cheap AI or something)

Posted by Kevin_Cogneto

I dumped way more quarters into this than I should have.

That's a good way to break your Super Nintendo.

I think you're thinking of one of the fantastic Technos arcade games, not this less-than-fantastic console game from LJN.

@kevin_cogneto: Oh damn, you're absolutely right. Durpa durpa durpa.

Yep. My guess is you're thinking of WWF Wrestlefest, which was pretty great.

@alex: Yeah, that was the one. I reckon it helps to watch these videos before I comment.

Who are you betting on to win the Rumble this year?

My wrestling game experience does not extend far back as the SNES, so much of the mostalgia doesn't do it for me (except for the reminder that Crush and Tatanka exist).

DANIEL BRYAN FOR THE RUMBLE.

I cried at the part where Alex looked forlornly around his room for a friend.
