Stardust is fucking brilliant

I know nothing about wrestling except the anecdotal cultural touchstones like Hogan, The Rock, etc.

But I still really enjoy the little wrestling talks.

It's fascinating to listen to people talk about anything that they're really into, if only to shed some light on a form of entertainment I'm unfamiliar with.

Why are some gamers always going all "Bwahhh this isn't what I like SO WHY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT IT?!"

Actually, that lack of cultural empathy might explain a lot of the more... unsavory aspects of gamer culture that reared it's head last week.

I've been watching wrestling my whole life and am deeply invested into it, the culture, and all that comes with it. I helped local wrestling leagues and ring crews and I can say that it's true that this wrestling content is coming furiously and it is becoming hard to ignore.

I feel for those who aren't "in the know" or care about wrestling who happen to love Giant Bomb. All of these wrestling references and affiliated content is a little alienating and intrusive at times. Especially when Dan seems to be the biggest reason behind it all — it opened up the floodgates for Alex and Jeff to become more chatty about it.

Brad is becoming audibly irritated with it, so basically, I just don't want the community to respond harshly to this. I fully understand their points of view about it and while it is true Jeff wants Giant Bomb to be more than games, at the moment, it's games and wrestling.

I feel like eventually it will settle down, but I do understand the perspectives of those who do not want this to become a wrestling/game hybrid site. It should be in doses, as should other pieces of non-game related content here.

Tbh I didn't really know who Dan was before he joined Giant Bomb and while I love the crazy food stories etc I really wasn't sure what his deal was.

But seeing this, along with looking into some of the other stuff he has done, I can now see that he is very, very good at this sort of thing. He has legit skill on camera and in writing, and seems to have a gift for working with people, particularly the slightly weird ones. I am now really excited about the things he can do at GB.

I feel like Cody is struggling with how little they have fleshed out the Stardust canon, but also kinda loving it. Really hope he didn't get in trouble for the "I wore Starman's skin" comment. Fantastic stuff all round, way better than drunk Flair.

That photo of Dan with SCSA is almost as great as the one of Dan and Stardust.

Dan and Alex are fantastic at interviewing wrestlers, for what that's worth. Really well thought-out questions that provoked some interesting answers. Also anyone who hasn't listened to Steve Austin's podcast before should absolutely do so because it's magical. The guy is genuinely lovable and can riff non-stop for hours off the slightest influence.

I've gotta say, Cody pulls off Stardust really well. It makes a lot of sense, the Rhodes were getting a huge reaction when they teamed up last year (and they've been consistently fantastic to watch in the ring) but people still cling more to Goldust than they did to Cody.

Admittedly part of that was that Dustin has been doing the best work of his life since he came back for this run, but nevertheless the character obviously still works for people (albeit in a way which has changed since its introduction way back when). Whereas Cody, as handsome as he is, has always struggled to find something to differentiate himself from looking too much like a default Create-a-Wrestler. I think this works, he seems to be really enjoying himself, and he still gets to be incredible in the ring.
