The hype has started for real now, hasn't it?

Edited by sravankb

I'm kinda excited for this. Ubisoft does open-world third person stuff pretty well.

Posted by mrfluke

renewed faith in watchdogs especially after watching the video GB put up.

Posted by Speedhuntr

I'm actually kind of disappointed that it doesn't seem to have the Dark Souls-esque multiplayer invasion thing anymore (or did it ever?). But the rest seems great!

Posted by Corevi

@speedhuntr: i guess they figured that it would have to be disabled during story missions so whats the point.

Taco van > Life

Posted by ThatOneDudeNick

This looks like a lot of fun.

Posted by Glees0rz

Tré excited for this. Question is do I get it for PC or my recently purchased PS4?

Posted by HammondofTexas

There needs to be a mission to hack Giant Bomb Chicago and obtain sweet scoops before Patrick gets them!

Posted by Murdoc_

Why would the guy that hacked into his game to kill him not just go kill him, but run away? I dont get it.

Also the car wasn't getting damaged?

Can I turn this off?

Guns are supposed to make NOISE! It's not as bad as Turok Evolution on PS2 (god forbid) but this could be better.

L3 to reload? Huh.

This looks like a lot of fun.

Posted by spraynardtatum

Wow, that looks pretty freaking cool.

Posted by Dixego

So I see Dark Souls is the new standard for game design now, eh? I like that.

Posted by chilipeppersman

@liquidprince: amen! this looks like the MP that GTA V shoulda had.

Posted by NeoZeon

When it doubt, nuke the taco van; it's the only way to be sure.

QL got pulled, huh?

Anyways, still looking good. So yeah, time for it to actually come out.

Posted by TheGorilla

@murdoc_: He didn't hack into his game to kill him. He was trying to steal a file without being spotted.

If W47CH_D0G5 brings back the screeching modem sound effect then I am for it

I still don't really care for this game. I'm probably in the minority tho.

I think this looks cool but there were like several moments in this video that I thought were fucking hilarious. It was like they had a plan to make a totally 100% professional walkthrough video but they couldn't get it right when capturing the gameplay footage so they just said "FUCK IT" and decided they'd justify it all through voiceover. It's actually kind of charming in a way.

"why the fuck would you get in a taco van for this video that shit is gonna look ridiculous!!??" "Fuck dude I panicked whatever look we'll just say it's cause it's 'inconspicuous' or some shit"

"I know I'll hack into this camera to get a better view on the situ- oh that's actually a worse view if anything... Ah well they won't care"

And the fact mobile players can send you messages in game is brilliant. No joke it's gonna be bare funny seeing "SUCK IT YOU CUNT" flashing up in front of my stone-faced character.

The weapon sounds during the Decryption gameplay sounded so bad...

@splodge: Oh, of course. I'm an idiot, thanks.

The fake banter in these demos are always the worst.

"I'll have to profile everybody to find out who the hacker is."

Maybe it's, I don't know, the guy in the sombrero-festooned taco van who's driving down the wrong side of the road, scraping paint with every other car on the street? Apparently, there needs to be laws against hacking and driving -- it's the worst kind of distracted driving.

This is the greatest game ever made, bar none.

Those gun sound effects though.

Also, what was the dude in the taco truck's goal with "hacking" the other player?

Posted by Strife777

I may be an optimist at heart, at least when it comes to video games, but fuck the haters, this game looks fun as hell. I didn't think I was going to care about the multiplayer stuff, but color me surprised.

I gotta say though, people on the companion app can send messages? Prepare for some foul language.

Oh man, I have to buy this game now. I just wish I could have a Ryan Davis skin in a sombrero to drive the taco van.

Posted by captain_clayman

Looks like a really cool game mode...the driving looks kinda off though, there seems to be a general lack of physics, no drifting or hydroplaning on rainslick roads...nothing really seems to happen when you collide with anything even at blazing fast speeds. Hopefully they touch that up a little bit.

Posted by DJJoeJoe

@tikicobra: Well I think you get more points for hacking fully, he still got some to spend on stuff with that partially complete hack though. I like that mode, it is a more passive one and you effectivally are just an NPC in someone else's world and until you start the hack the other guy shouldn't know you're there, unless your actual movement gives you away (sprinting in front of them). I'd love to just casually follow someone for a bit, that's maybe even viable as you look for a good situation to start your hack from too. Wait until they are in some building or something and buying some items then start the hack from a parked car or alley way. :)

Looks fun. The shooting seems super generic but I'm definitely more interested now than I was before watching this video.

Ubisoft: "Mission accomplished!"

Posted by TheVGamer

@germanbomber: Yeah, I'm disappointed that the shooting is so standard and dull but hey, actual combat mechanics always seem to be the weakest part of open world games so it's not like this is anything new.

Looks bretty gud!

This. That stuff is brutal.

As for the game itself, my ambivalence is high. Portions of it look interesting enough, but it just doesn't look all that fun to me. The "interactive open-world" seems a lot more contrived than it used to. While I'm sure it will occasionally lead to some cool moments and helps make this game more than just a GTA clone, it just doesn't seem like the revolutionary feature I hoped it would be. And that's a microcosm of the problem. This game has virtually no chance of living up to the hype, since it was THE next-gen game a whole bunch of people (including me) were looking forward to.

Then it was delayed, which, while probably necessary, killed a whole lot of the excitement over it. Especially while people played the shit out of GTAV in the meantime and may have gotten their fix in this genre for a while. And now, the once-exciting "groundbreaking features" seem old hat because we've waited this long for them, and if that portion underwhelms people, what's left is simply a bland amalgamation of GTA/Saints Row/AC/Dark Souls that people are poised to be disappointed in. Honestly, I think Ubisoft is terrified of exactly that, which is probably why there's random-ass crap like robot spiders to try to show how "wacky" and not at all bland this game is.

That said, I haven't given up all hope on the game. I think it will simply be good, but not great. Which probably won't be enough for most people, and I'll probably fall in that group unless a QL or outstanding reviews across the board change my mind in the next month. Don't get me wrong; it's likely to sell a shit-ton of copies, but I'll be surprised if this is a game that is remembered as anything particularly special. For me, it's probably a Fall purchase at $40 or less, if that. I'd love to be wrong, though.

@murdoc_: Seemed like it had some weird cheat mode on for recording purposes, he also wasn't losing any speed when crashing into other vehicles and they were just bouncing off of him.

Except for Sleeping Dogs...best combat in one of these kinds of games yet

I really don't understand why people like sleeping dogs so much. The hand to hand combat looked brutal but it was a lesser version of the batman combat. The shooting was way more average than what I've seen of watch dogs and what've played of GTA 5.
