Can't wait to see what developers do with this. I'm sure the first bunch of games using this engine are going to really shove the whole particle effect thing in your face. :P

From a texture quality point of view, this looks worse than the first Crysis game.

agreed, that said this engine is being tailored to consoles where there isn't much ram. pretty particle effects can be done on the gpu, the same with the cloth dynamics. Might be physX infact. fancy textures come second when ram is at a premium.

It's nice to see an engine built for consoles that's employing some new graphical tech that the PC has had for a while.

or I'm talking out my ass :D

Watched the in-depth presentation they did on the new engine features. And yeah, they're pushing particle effects hard.

Looks great, wonder what kinda horsepower it's gonna take to render games in it.

Textures still look like typical Epic low resolution smudge-fests. The lava movement looked really amazing though.

So games can look like this next gen? If so holy fuck, that is all.

Games can look like this right now, on PC, as all the impressive looking games at E3 were doing. I should hope that when those next gen consoles do arrive they'll be able to run stuff more impressive than this even.

Still, Unreal Engine 4's particles, physics and liquids are impressive. Can't wait to see what developers will do with this tech.

... I remember when Unreal Engine 3 got tech demos and coverage promoting it's liquid jelly and bone breaking physics. Whatever happened to that?

From a texture quality point of view, this looks worse than the first Crysis game. Pretty particles, landscapes and skybox however.

Anyone know what metal album they stole that art from?

Between Watch Dogs, Agni's Philosophy, Star Wars 1313 and Unreal Engine 4, last week was a great time to be a graphics whore.

As a person who plays predominantly on PC, the graphics in recent games don't seem far short of this. Could some tech-head point out what separates the Unreal 4 future from the Unreal 3 present?

If they could live in a world where my games look as good as Blizzard CGI cutscenes.... I will die a happy man.

You know, I think this was a missed opportunity for Epic to turn over a new leaf and call their engine '4real'.

So basically, the games will look that good in ~5-10 years.

I dislike the lack of texture pop in, thus Unreal 3 is a superior product.

giant bomb is really late on the draw with these vids haha

i think UE4 tech is very impressive and exciting for what the future will hold. when i see these effects i dont think 'oh great, now every game is going to have this' i think 'the good games will use this tech in interesting and unique ways' .. this presents an EXTREME amount of potential . . the lighting, the liquid physics, particle physics, etc. . amazing
