Jack Skellington Spooks Up Disney Infinity This Weekend

Does anyone else find it weird that they would release this? I like nightmare before christmas but how many kids(who are the demographic for infinity) know about that movie today?

Yeah, not the kind of music I think, when I see Jack Skellington...urgh. Could at least try and get me excited with some Danny Elfman!

@automatontribe: Parents tend to show their kids stuff they liked as a child. My daughter grew up watching nightmare before christmas, mighty morphin power rangers, and ninja turtles. Plus, nightmare before christmas is still marketed today at hot topics everywhere, not to mention the re-theming they do of the haunted mansion at the disney parks during the holidays. In other words, kids be hip to old shit.

@automatontribe: Actually Nightmare Before Christmas is extremely popular with many age groups. They still sell tons of NBC merchandise to this day. Hell, every halloween at Disneyland, they re-do the Haunted Mansion and add a Nightmare Before Christmas theme to it. They even have Jack and Sally walk around characters. I would say plenty of kids know who Jack is.

The idea of giving a retailer (especially Gamestop) a month long purchasing exclusive really gets under my skin. It was bad enough when they were getting pre-order exclusives. I would rather wait till other retailers have it then give gamespot any of my money.

My four-year-old son saw Nightmare Before Christmas at our local drive-in movie theater when he was two years old and it is still his favorite movie. He's wearing a Jack Skellington shirt to school today, actually, and he asks to hear the soundtrack almost daily.

He's only been mildly interested in Infinity when I've showed him the figures at Toys R Us, but I bet if he knew he could see me playing as Jack he'd want it...

Oh god. I might have to get this game now. Nightmare Before Christmas is still my all-time favorite Disney movie. I probably rented it over a hundred times as a kid.

Seriously...closest thing yet to make me interested in this game. Have this on DVD and Blu-Ray, probably in my top 5 movies all time.

@automatontribe: kids still watch cinderella, aladdin, the lion king, etc. I'm sure lots have seen this as well.

on a side note, does this game actually have a "game" portion to it? All i've ever seen is the sandbox.

Is this a play set or just the figure to be used in Toy Box? This has always confused my girlfriend and I about which figure will actually give us new levels in the game.

Oh man I love Nightmare, not going to buy Disney Infinity for it though(even if I am mighty tempted)

@wesley008: It's just the figure that you can use in the toy box. Usually the playsets come with 2 other characters and have a clear plastic piece that you put on the base to use it.

@automatontribe: i dont think it is for them, i mean they dont mind it if they discover it for the first time but I bet its for the Jeff's of the world.

Going to Gamestop would be a true nightmare.

You wanna talk some real nefarious shit? The Toy Story in Space playset coming out soon comes with Jessie and Buzz, you have to buy Woody separately. And he's a Wal-Mart exclusive.

Also I drove 30 min to the nearest Gamestop to get Jack today and found out it comes out on a goddamn Saturday. What in the world.

I sense there's something in the wind,

that makes Disney want to cash in.

This is the movie that I wanted to see characters from the most, but I'm going to wait to see how they handle releasing other classic characters if they want to start going this route. It doesn't seem worth it if I buy the game and wind up having to scramble trying to get the handful figures that I'm interested in.

Unless they have data hidden away on the game disc that is unreachable then all the of figures that are going to be released for this game have been revealed. You can see them all in the Hall of Heroes inside the game that keeps track of what you own. The only other "classic" character releases are going to be the Toy Story playset that comes with Buzz and Jesse (with Woody sold separately) and Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey. The Toy Story stuff is out this month with Mickey coming out early next year sometime. Between now and then they're releasing figures and playsets for stuff like Frozen (Disney's new movie this winter) and Phineas and Ferb. So if you're not into any of that I'd suggest not investing in Disney Infinity.

This initial run of figures for the game seems to focus on newer, more popular stuff to hook in the kids. The next set of figures I hope go a more classic route for the older Disney fan.

Disney, fire John Vignocchi, rehire him as the star of his own 3d theatrical movie.
