I figure I should start trying LoL again.

Wait, so is this trying to be like a Relic RTS? You know the kind where you cap VPs and resource points? Cause that is the vibe I'm getting.

Cannot wait :)

Been playing LoL pretty consistently for a year, love it. This is gonna be awesome.

@neoepoch: No, It's more like Capture Points in TF2.
You're part of a team and you capture points. Captured points drain the health of the enemy Nexus, and when that goes down to 0 you win. (same principle as them giving you score and you wining by reaching a score threshold really.)

Also this is not out yet. It will be playable at Gamescom and PAX, and will come out some time after that.

Riot is on a roll, LoL is one of the biggest PC games now and all thanks to catering to what the community wants. Now announce spectator/replays for season 2!!!

Dominion is really cool and very exciting to watch -- our internal playtests have been pretty loud lately because of the new mode. I can't wait to see it out in the wild!

Is there a GB channel in-game (NA) that I'm not aware of? I just realized I never even looked.

Posted by ChickenPants

This might get me back in. :)

Posted by Creigz

I will play this some. I've started playing LoL again after being irritated with my hurting teammates in my level.

It's weird seeing LoL on GB. I like LoL a lot but competitive gaming or even a strong multiplayer game is not something I associate with GB. Of course there have been exceptions in the past.

I'm looking forward to this but Riot are like Valve and Blizzard. Soon doesn't have the same meaning to them. :)

Posted by darkvare
@lacke: they have a quicklook of the beta
Posted by Mezmero

I just started playing LoL like a month ago and it's pretty rad for a free game. I've only been playing 5v5 vs bot teams so a new mode can only make the game better.

Posted by RTSlord

hmm, looks interesting. and finally a new map for LoL

Posted by valrog

While it seems interesting and all, I'm afraid that it will be plagued with 1v1 Champions therefore you will see same Champions over and over again and nothing else.

Posted by The_Laughing_Man

About damn time. Game has been out 2 years and all it has is 2 maps.

Judging by the amount of comments about LoL or HoN on the DOTA articles, I think GB knows that a significant portion of their viewership plays these games, so it wouldn't hurt to cover them.
Posted by Zolfe

does this still make it a MOBA?
i thought all MOBAs had to adhere to the DOTA style of gameplay with towers and shit, but whatever, very interesting to see how this turns out

Posted by neoepoch

@Poki3: So then it is just like Relic RTS games. You cap certain victory points in order to drain the opponent of a bar of (generally) 500 VPs down to zero.

Edited by BenderUnit22

Good to see new content other than heroes. I wish they'd introduce a better endgame other than farming IP to buy more runes and heroes. They need another bar to fill to do something (like, get a small amount of RP every once in a while) on level 30 or at least let you prestige.

They could also flesh out some meta gameplay modes like Hunt the Teemo into their own subgames.

EDIT: Scratch that, I figured out what it needs: Random loot drops in the form of hats you can put on your dudes. Some of them can be bought from the store.

@phrosnite: Wahhhhh im gonna hate on another game because they're enjoying it and I don't wahhhhh

oh hey, a Dawn Of War mode.   Now only if Dawn of War had a DOTA mode :)

According to a recent edit on their main page, it will be ready to play at PAX. Then it will be released for the public sometime after PAX.

I think DotA 2 is going to take a lot of LoL's players simply because LoL can't push out content fast enough.

Since their October 2009 launch, they've released one new map, totaling 2. That's not a lot of gameplay choices...

Meanwhile, DotA 2 is going to release with at least half a dozen modes, plus its going to have Valve's support, meaning it should be able to pump out updates regularly.

Actually, Riot updates their game pretty regularly with patches and new heroes to play. Not to mention that their player base is enormous which makes it harder for valve in my opinion since they have to convince people who are invested in LOL to try DOTA 2. This is the 1st I've heard of DOTA 2 having that many modes which is great though.

Either way its two companies I like making games that are gonna compete with each other which can only be good for people into MOBAs (still a shit name btw).

Top-down Arathi Basin!

Posted by yorro

First HON turned free to play. Now League of Legends got a new mode.

Both could be the result of DotA2 being announced.

Looks like a rainbow poptart.

@Mezmero: You should try a regular ass "normal" match vs other players, you get matched with other low lvls so don't worry about getting destroyed. Get som friends online and make a pre-made, it's a lot of fun :)
Posted by Cmdc00kie

When DOTA 2 releases, many people are gonna flock to it because it's new and by valve. The real question is whether they will be able to keep everyone or if they'll go back to LoL. Dominion is looking great though.

@opp: Thank you. I was wondering what MOBA was too. You saved me a google search!

I knew it would be you who posted this video.

I didn't need to be sold on a game I already play religiously, but

king of the hill? I'm sold.

Posted by Devoid

So there's gonna be huge balance problems for this, right? Aren't all the heroes made for the DOTA mode?

Also, this makes me realize how glad I am that you guys don't post other LoL videos here.

Edited by Addfwyn

Yay, more features, can't complain. I'm too invested in LoL (probably spent ore money than I have on any video game before) to ever switch to another MOBA type game probably, but it depends how innovative dota 2 is. I went to LoL because it wasn't just a repacked dota with a better backend (which hon is). If they significantly change a lot of core game concepts like LoL did, maybe I'll be interested, but we'll have to see.

That said, I dunno how much this will matter exactly. From my experience with AOS and MOBA games, everyone always clamors for more maps, and then proceeds to play on the exact same 5v5 Summoner's Rift style map anyway. HoN had 3 maps, and I don't think I ever saw anyone play on anything but the 5v5 with 3 lane default. LoL has 2, and I admit I've only played Twisted Treeline like this. The thing with maps in these games is how finely tuned the balance is, that the only map that is ever balanced is the default one.

@Zolfe: I think it still counts. I'd consider games like Bloodline Champions to be MOBAs too, and have none of the typical AOS trappings.

Valve is gonna kill them

I hate League of Legends, for the one simple reason that the game is decided in a matter of 2 minutes. once an enemy breaks through just one of your defences, and you haven't broken theirs, you lose.

Having played LoL since its beta finished, I can safely say you are completely wrong.

I've been playing LoL for a couple of weeks and really enjoying it.  About to go online (been playing bot games), is the community as unkind to beginners as I hear?

Posted by jakob187

I'm curious. It's tough enough to get RANDOMS in a match to ever fucking listen, so now you have to rely on them to capture and defend a point? Moreover, this seems like a mode that greatly encourages tanky builds, which is currently the biggest issue with League.

Edited by Watchers

@akzo: Depends on what level your account is. When I started, there were things in place that prevented newbies being matched against experienced people, so everyone would kinda learn together. There wasn't co-op vs AI back then, so no idea if that actually contributes to deciding the level of player you're matched against. That said, generally so long as you play safe, admit mistakes and try to learn you should be fine. Do expect people to rage throughout all levels of play though, as is the case for nearly any team-based online game.

So king of the hill mode. Seems cool but not sure if it'll beat the normal modes.

Posted by MeatSim

Post Warcraft 3 I could never really get back into DOTA games.
