Vita please!!

Hope this gets pushed to the PC or consoles!

Power attack takes care of those shield dudes.

I kind of wonder if porting to an actual system will mean they need to increase the difficulty in some way? It looks like Brad is struggling with the controls a fair bit.

Remember when WWII first person shooters were coming out every 2 hours back in 2005, 2006? Feels like "roguelike" games are getting to that point.

Am I the only one who started humming Carry on Wayward son when seeing the name of this game?

Posted by Y2Ken

The true Wayward Souls starts here.

I'm looking forward to messing with this when it comes to PC, seems pretty fun but like most people I'm not a fan of virtual controller setups. Seems pretty competent though, and I appreciate that it's a full package rather than one centred around microtransactions.

i've been playing this for 200 hours and i hadn't been invaded ONCE. Soul Memory is a joke.

etc.

The music sounds a bit Planescape to me.

Posted by enemymouse

That music is so soulsy!

Posted by shinluis

Brad and Vinny talking about swords will be the subject of my next fanfic.

Posted by toschi2222

I feel like the trend of kids having their music on loudspeakers has died down, at least in Germany. But man... is that shit annoying.

Wayward Soules?

Seiken Densetsu 3 is one of my favorite games and Brad should totally play it.

Posted by MeAuntieNora

Ugh, people blasting their shitty music... Riding around with your windows down, with either terrible dance-y electronic music or the worst stereotypical rap I have ever heard... Leaning out the window, stopping in the street, etc... for some reason they want people to hear it, and Vinny could be right that they're just looking for trouble.

@brad

Seiken densetsu 3 is a really cool game. The weapon mechanics got taken out from secret of mana and instead class decisions were implemented for each character on a light dark path with 4 end outcomes. The combat was still fun and you got to choose your party of three, and overall main character, out of the full roster of..6? Maybe because I owned the cart of secret of mana and played it to death as a kid, if I get the urge for that type of game I go for SD3 now instead.

"You're doing alright with this young lady"

"Famous last words"

I really like how this game looks. To me its a good amount of progression for this type of game too. Not sure if I should get it on iOS or wait though.

Brad...seriously....STOP saying "weird" all the time, for the love of some ancestral being!

Edited by parentalcon

Played the game on the iPhone for some hours now and I am really enjoying it so far! The controls work pretty well actually but of course it doesn't have the precision of a controller. It's too bad Brad didn't show the rogue, which is by far my favorite character to play.

Posted by FraggingRights

The character select image of the Adventurer really reminds me of the cover art for another games. Can't quite put my finger on the name...

Posted by Amafi

If this ever comes out for a platform that's not god-awful for action games I'll probably get it. Looks decent.

I can't be the only one who stopped watching as soon as Brad said "on the iphone," right?

Welcome to Transit Etiquette with Vinny & Brad

Posted by Blitzer

Such a shame that games like this are on mobile devices and not handhelds or consoles/PC.

Posted by HansKaosu

Use the gawd damn shield and axe

Edited by weegieanawrench

@blitzer: Brad mentioned it is coming to the PC at some point

@brad you and Vinny should do QL Throwback of Secret of Mana 3

someone help me out here- you can stand on the red mushrooms to regen health right? it totally looks like you can do that and I'm not sure if I should be screaming at the top of my lungs while watching this quick look

Edited by JackSukeru

Ah, so it's a Spelunkylike!

Edited by pocketroid

Seiken Densetsu on Game Boy, the first game, def. came out in the US, as Final Fantasy Adventure. I also have FF Legend I-III, but those are SaGa games.

Seems like it. The effect isn't super pronounced, though.

A mudblood is a witch or wizard whose parents are both non-magical.

I kept watching, but most of my brain turned off after that, yes

This is a great game, but despite their best efforts and it being better than most other iOS action games, the controls are still a major bummer. I constantly have trouble reliably using the abilities or even just moving. Especially with characters like the mage where you fire in one of the four cardinal directions, I'll often fire in the wrong direction while trying to dodge and fire since precision is impossible.

Posted by Seikenfreak

My user name is kinda named from the Seiken Densetsu games.. but not exactly. Eh there's a dumb little story behind it. I've played a little of Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3. Legend of Mana was sweet though.

Posted by Paul_Tillich

Brad has never seen signs for priority seating on a bus or train?! Well, at least we now know he pays as little attention to cues in real life as he does in games.

Posted by Thuggish

This looks great, and does subtly remind me of Secret of Mana (one of my all time favorites). I'll keep my fingers crossed for PC, PS4, Vita and/or 3DS ports.

Posted by darkest4

I really hope phone game coverage remains once in a blue moon, zzz.

Edited by Isomac

Spelunky meets Secret of Mana! Too bad it doesn't look anywhere close as good as those mentioned games.

Edited by vocalcannibal

I bought this while watching UPF, and I don't regret it at all. Aside from the base level of awkwardness associated with touch controls, it really feels just fine on the iPad. I wasn't expecting to do particularly stellar on my first few attempts anyway, so accepting that I was going to die a bunch of times in the beginning made it easier to get used to walking around and attacking exactly how I want to. I'm only slightly behind where Brad is in the QL, and I seem to have worked out most of the game functions before he did.

It's a pretty cool game, especially for the price.

The controller clips to your phone on Android. Look up Moga hero power or Moga pocket. Would be perfect for this game, I wish the GiantBomb guys would ditch the iPhones and get Android phones, they make such better gaming devices. My note 3 plus Moga pro controller is superior than even the Vita in terms of control, check my display pic.

Posted by mrburger

Correction: Those character upgrades are permanent. Props to you, Brad, for getting so far without them!

Posted by MeatSim

Weird choice of platform for a game like this.

Posted by agemyth

I wouldn't touch this game until it is on a device that has buttons. Android/iOS controllers don't count for reasons I really should not have to elaborate on.

You're not the only one. Then again, there's never a bad time to hum Carry on wayward son

Those look actually kind of decent, but are there actually some decent Android games out that support them? Also i wouldn't mind a version that uses a simple usb connection to the phone, sadly Bluetooth connectivity tends to draw a lot of juice from most devices.

Posted by bradleyg

@nethlem: you can literally connect a ps3 controller(through usb) or wired 360 into the micro usb port with a simple OTG adapter on my phone. No modifying anything, just press home button and you can even control the home screen.

The game collection is coming along, rockstar games work great, some indie games like the cave and ravensword. Free to play games like dead trigger 2. Modern Combat 4 is probably the flapship game for moga and is a full dual analog multiplayer shooter like CoD.
