Sounds like a Stephen King villain.

Posted by Maitimo

The earnestness he talks about LIGHT and DARK with is actually kind of off-putting.

Posted by TorMasturba

Their DLC cycle has been taking a while, how long since they released the original game?

Yup, that's exactly what this game needs. Looks like there's some new weapons too.

Agreed...corny villain name aside, I'm excited for this.

I don't know about this one. I'd rather their resources be going to making the actual sequel as opposed to this. Also...Mr. Scratch?

Edited by Sooty

I don't understand why it's called American Nightmare.

It's an American character with the events taking place in America, did that need additional clarification or something?

I am pumped, though a bit bewildered at it being an XBLA release.

Posted by Jedted

I still have to finish the DLC for the first game.

Posted by derFeef

Mr. Scratch was in the first game and is actually a different name for the devil.

Posted by MoseSSesoM

Can't wait.

Posted by JTB123

"I fight with light..." No Alan, I'm pretty sure that's an Uzi actually.

Looking forward to this though, need to finish that final DLC.

Might as well just call your bad guy Luci-Fred

I played through the original and hated every moment that involved combat and Alan Wake's snarky comments. This trailer smacks of the same formula. No thanks.

Posted by MormonWarrior

Loved Alan Wake. A lot. This looks exciting.

Posted by DiGiTaL_SiN

fuck yes.

mr. scratch = the devil.

Posted by Alphazero

Heck yeah. Love this game.

Out of all of the games where you fight off zombie like monsters on a stage with fireworks and rock music, this was my favorite. Sorry Left 4 Dead 2.

Posted by StartRunning

Looks kinda samey. That's not a bad thing.

Not sure why you thought this would be any different.

Love Alan Wake. Still have the Signal stashed away to get back into the game before this DLC hits. Looking forward to it a lot.

I hope there's more 'Gods of Asgard' music. Like this little gem...

Posted by ZarakixKenpachi

Oh wow it's an XBLA game? Cool, I liked the first game but I admit I didn't understand the ending at all. I'll probably get this though.

Posted by pinkkis

Why is everyone so put off by the name? As if Alan Wake or even Max Payne are "better". Overall this falls in line with them, and I can't wait to play it :)

Posted by Death_Unicorn

Yes!

Posted by Cybexx

I'm a little sad that this basically looks like stand-alone DLC but I do want more Alan Wake and I'm excited that they are keeping the live action tv thing going.

Posted by angryemu

I like the name a lot! It's in the vein of "Red Hot American Summer," "American History X," or "American Graffiti."

So, there you have it! Alan Wake: American Nightmare is the videogame adaptation of Red Hot American Summer we've all be looking forward to!

Just don't go water skiing with Paul Rudd... Trust me.

Posted by Humanity

I was going to say this looks like a more action oriented arcade style Alan Wake but thinking back on that game it was all action anyway - every 5 steps shit came out of the woods.

The first one was fantastic! Really looking forward to this!

More Alan Wake? Yes please.

Posted by LiquidSwords

Finally played the 2 DLC last week and has reignited my love for this game(it was always there, just hibernating)! Can't wait for this!

Why isn't the first one on PC? I hate this trend.

Posted by chilipeppersman

@avidwriter: me as well. its maddening.

I got really excited when the trailer mentioned Mr. Scratch. I was hoping they'd explain what the hell he was supposed to be in the first game.

Posted by DallasTheGamer

Alan Wake is one of my favorite games on the 360 so this will be day 1 for me. I'm pretty surprised the game looked alittle more action oriented than the first. But that's not a bad thing imo.

Posted by Andheez

Alan Wake is fantastic. Not sure why everyone hated the combat, I thought it was fantastic. I love how they use real video in game too, its done really well.

Mr. Scratch is a doppelgänger of Alan Wake supposedly created by Thomas Zane.

The true purpose of Mr. Scratch is unknown, but it is implied that he will return to the surface of Bright Falls while Alan Wake is writing the ending to the story at the bottom of Cauldron Lake. It is probable that Mr. Scratch is supposed to return to Barry Wheeler, Sheriff Breaker, Cynthia Weaver, and Alice Wake, but his reasons and purpose are still unknown.

Old Scratch or Mr. Scratch is a folk name for The Devil in the local legends of New England and pre-Civil War America.

Did this trailer just give away the ending of the previous game? I didn't play it, but I'm guessing the whole Mr. Scratch thing is significant.

Posted by Springfart

looks great, i should get around to actually finishing the original

Posted by clank543

I don't know about this. Alan Wake was a really good one off, but I don't see really enjoying much more of it myself.

Posted by ValiantGoat

Really looking forward to this one, hopefully the fact that it's an XBLA game wont translate into it being too short.

Posted by addix

Totally getting this. Really loved Alan Wake and it's two DLCs.

Posted by dezvous

@avidwriter: You and me both... the only reason I picked up a 360.

Edited by SimonM7

I think the fundamentals of the combat are pretty great personally, and by far the strongest component of the main game. The issue is largely with the level design, which is often just a straight path with zero peripheral stuff going on, and to a lesser - but still significant - extent the lacking enemy variety. I get that the lengthy trekking through woods is supposed to be suspenseful, but with the big waypoint circle removing any sense of disorientation and the enemies having lost their eerie quality quite a while earlier, it never really feels particularly thrilling. Which for a thriller is a bit devastating.

The DLC episodes on the other hand were much tighter, and they immediately zipped past the main game in sheer enjoyment. I think we've already got a taste of what a better paced Alan Wake experience is like, and if this builds on those lessons I think they're off to a great start.

"shadows forms"? Is this a typo?
