Naturally.

EDIT: Naturally, a healthy mech is a happy mech.

3049. One year before the clan invasion so probably no clan mechs... Still I want this BADLY.

I'd have probably run a check of the landing system first.

Seems strange that they just dropped the Atlas right down without any sort of drop pod. Normally, Mechs are inserted via drop pods to protect them from reentry heat. Atlases also don't have any jump jets...

Posted by Rohok

I want that song. I'm a little worried about this lack of clan mechs thing. My favorite mech of all time is the Cougar- Probably the only mech that looks remotely any good to me.

Atlas Mech dropping from the sky.

Yep, you're pretty much screwed.

Posted by Veektarius

I'm guessing they attached a disposable jump pack for the descent. Anyway, cool trailer. The franchise has been dormant too long.

Is this all that came of that Mechwarrior 5 trailer a couple years back?

Did it just say "All Systems Online"? They are supposed to be "nominal"! Anyway, I'm excited for this game. I hope the cash shop doesn't screw over players too badly.

@Beomoose: Especially if it lands on you. *Smoosh!*

Rather have MW5 than this.

Posted by Krakn3Dfx

At the end there, I thought it was going to transition into the Monday Night Football theme by Hank, Jr.

And I wanted to be in an '87 Trans Am.

I hope this game doesn't suck.

Eaglesham? Really?

And Atlas' are dumb anyway. Madcat MK II or GTFO.

Posted by gonzotgreat23

I had an Atlas figurine and I painted it pink with a black lace teddy. Figured since it's pretty hard to hide a 100 tons of metal, might as well brag about being the baddest mech on the field.

Yea me too but this is something at least. I'm pretty excited about it mechwarrior has been dead for 10 years.

If this does well enough, maybe they'll be able to fund a full-on MechWarrior 5 and do it justice. Still have the flight stick and throttle I used to play MW4. Nice to have an excuse to break them out again, regardless.

Yes, I'm sure the free to play revival of a series that has been off the map for years is going to be very careful about honouring the previously established fiction.

Oh, I wanna have some sexy sex with this game.

Actually I think it might work out pretty great. When replaying the old Mechwarrior games recently I discovered that it is much more like for instance Star Trek online's fight system than anything. Up until lately I have found mmorpg's not so interesting, but with the introduction of "free to play" games these last few years (STO being one of these) I actually find the concept more interesting. I now can spend this and that much money whenever I want, keeping the devs' incentive to make new good content and features alive in the process. As long as the universe is appealing I can really get into this way of playing a "machine mmorpg" as thats different from running around in an fps. Coupled with a decent control system, complex enough shield and engine management and maybe even a cockpit view, this could be awesome imho.

Edit: Strike the cockpit comment. Of course it has a cockpit. Then, simply put I'm sold at this idea and would think that this may in fact BE mw à la 2012, in turn MW5 in itself:

Almost looks too good to be true to be honest. Those detailed monitors and screen looks extremely promising.

YES!

"Weapons: online"

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD YES!

"All systems online"

What the goddamn WHAT? NOMINAL. HOW DO YOU @^#$$% THAT UP?

.... this has been my nerd meltdown for the year. Thank you all for attending.

I wonder about the pilot fiddling with a control stick - aren't mechs supposed to be piloted by direct neural interface?

Posted by Silver-Streak

@Rohok: I don't even like music and I was kinda pumped up by that song.

It reminds me of a mix of the old MW2 theme and One Must fall's theme.

Posted by Lazyaza

Fuck yeah Atlas!
Posted by jonnyboy

This trailer is clearly fake. A genuine trailer would have had dubstep in it.

Not exactly. If I recall correctly, the neural interface is responsible for the more subtle aspects of mech control. The pilot's brain augments the mech's reflexes and sense of balance. The control stick directs a mech forward, but the brain prevents a mech from tipping over.

Yeah, the guy in the atlas is screwed because that's a 100 ton mech without any jump jets. When it hits the ground, splat. This teaser basically raped the canon and I'm looking forward to Hawken more than ever now.

You cant drop the atlas out of a plane rofl wtf trailer.

So glad mech games are coming back, even if they aren't successful and fade away.

A large part of me wants to think they did that because it's called MechWarrior Online, not because they messed up the boot up sequence.

Posted by Lind_L_Taylor

Is this on Steam?

Posted by Hellequin

@mjwyoshi64: That .... actually, could make some sense. It makes the jarring edit of the soundbyte a little more reasonable, but my heart still sinks in my chest every time I hear it.

I want this to be amazing because I've never got around to play a good mech game.

Hawken also scored a 10 million dollar budget recently. That's amazing for an indie title.

It's possible to attach jump packs to battlemechs without jump jets for in-atmosphere drops such as this. I'm assuming that's the yellow apparatus still attached to the Atlas at around 1:10.
