Cool video. Reminds me of "this american life" mixed with Danny's "the point" vids.

Great video Patrick.

I'm still not sold on voice control on any device. It's never worked well for me and also I'm so used to using a controller that I find that method to be quicker. Maybe we'll get there one day,

Cool video I like seeing the hardware get a FAIR shake and not a montage of people screaming something and the xbox not recognizing it. Despite the problems I also believe the Kinect is probably the more innovative piece of hardware we've seen and I hope they keep working at it.

Background music was a little loud at times compared to your voice (not only during next page)

Maybe it would hear you better if you turned down the smooth jazz. Where are you, a hotel lobby?

I really enjoyed the video! Hearing about the Kinect with video examples makes so much sense. Never having used Kinect, it's hard for me to imagine what people mean when they talk about it on the podcast. I hope to see more content like this!

I like these types of videos but I was left wondering before I clicked it, 'Is this an actual feature or is this just another dumb video put out by Microsoft to flaunt their 'glorious' voice commands.' I guess what I'm getting at, they're hard to tell apart from other short length videos and trailers. The only thing that caught my attention and made me make that click... was the thumbnail.

Really cool, excellent music and nice clear presentation.

The only thing I'd say is I agree with @kkotd that I wasn't sure whether this was actual content or just a random promotional video. I skimmed over it here, but when I saw it go up on Youtube I decided to have a look, not saying it needs a witty, catchy name, but some way to distinctly differentiate it from trailers and stuff would be nice.

(Unless there is something and I'm completely missing it, which is a definite possibility...)

Cool video. Maybe a little on the sleepy/relaxing side. Also don't be afraid to insert small segments of you talking to the camera and delivering a point. Same as you do with other stuff minus the headphones and get the mic out of the camera shot and bump up the sensitivity, unless of course your mic can't handle audio that isn't right on it.

Or, a different example for this particular video, have some funny shots of you on the couch saying "Next Page" over and over while falling into a more miserable, disinterested slump each time. Grabbing some popcorn while browsing and then you ate it all while using voice to browse. Should be simple enough to have a standard camcorder on a small tripod, hit record, do a bunch of different things, then chop out what you like in Premiere or whatever. If I can do this at home with my basic hardware and limited knowledge then you should have no problem! :D

Moar Giant Bomb content!

Too bad the subject was crappy Xbox Kinect :P

Very cool patrict I liked everything except for the smooth jazz. I'm guessing you are restricted by what free stuff is available, but that track for me had a real elevator vibe to it? I did like the concept though!

Yeah, interesting. Music needs work (maybe a change of music after the next page bit would of been nice, music levels change some) like everyone says, but really cool video. Would not mind seeing more of course

Is there no handswipe functionality for the "next page" business? Seems like that would be a nice in between of voice functionality and picking up a controller?

The issues you have highlighted seem like exactly the typical inconsistencies Microsoft seem to have with everything they have ever produced with an interface. It always feels like its 75 percent there (win8 being the most recent obvious example.) - to be fair as far as the direct competition in this case goes, sony hasn't ever done much better.

It must be difficult though, I mean Apple's entire success as a company basically amounts to their ability to make tight, reliable interfaces. If Apple can stick out so far ahead of everyone else just for this, it must be harder than you would think.

Yeah, this is super awesome. The format, not the kinect functionality, that is. :P
Good shit scoops! Also, the audio mix is spot on. Vocals have just the right amount of compression and clarity, they aren't fighting for space with the backing music (which feels suitably Giant Bomb-esque, by the way. Nice choice.)

I really liked this. I don't have an Xbox One but I understand where Patrick is coming from. Having an inconsistent user experience with anything is incredibly frustrating. It would be cool to be able to just use voice to control something but the technology is just not there for it to fully meet my expectations.

That was really well produced. I kind of miss having features like this on Giant Bomb.

As for Kinect, I would rather have the voice and not the camera. Like, a microphone in the controller so I wouldn't have to deal with the camera. I doubt it will ever happen, but it seems like a nice way to integrate voice controls to many users who prefer not to have to deal with the Kinect.

Good vid, perfectly encapsulates why I won't bother with Kinect or equivalent until it's 95% effective. I accept the occasional stumble, but anymore than one failure during an interaction renders it a regression on good old buttons. Needs to be all pervasive too, top to bottom interface.

Being from England with something of a regional accent (not that strong) knocks another 50% of Kinect's effectiveness too, much like Siri. Hilariously, if I adopt a (really quite bad and inaccurate, think Hank from Larry Sanders) american accent, all these voice interfaces work quite a lot better.
