Ten Brief Trips to Nintendo Land

Didn't embargoes that are up the day of release used to mean the game wasn't very good? How strange is it that Nintendo is preventing much video at all from their NEW CONSOLE until their release day - which happens to be coming out on a Sunday when most buyers won't have any video to look at and might be too impatient to wait for Monday and business hours. I'm not saying it's a bad machine, but why aren't they allowing for a media blitz?

No, it doesn't and has never meant that. I'm not sure what perpetuates this myth. 90% of game embargoes are up on release day.

Nintendo's been doing that since the GameCube but in this case, if you were to blame it on anything, I'd say its all the features not being available yet or so people don't talk shit about it so customers are more likely to pick one up on release. Who knows, Japanese people are weird.

I can't be the only one who thinks that the Luigi's Mansion Nintendo Land icon looks like Atlus' Jack Frost, right?

BTW, my favourite Nintendo tune has to be the title screen song for Tetris on the O.G. Game Boy! At the 26 second mark this tune really picks up...it's ma jam!!

@Brad: Ah, ok, my bad. That leads to another question, though - why do they do it? I mean, these days games get a 6 month lead up of trailers and dev diaries, but you can't put out video of one until release day?

No, they don't want much of anything to seen before the embargo lifts...then they want you to see everything about the console all at once and all the time and will pay millions of dollars for advertisement that ensures it.

Looked at the price of the Wii U pro here and it was 3995 SEK or 590 USD. No way I am getting that.
