I loved the game back then on my brothers Atari ST. Bohemia Interactive could actually make something decent out of it.

Had so much fun with the original on my Atari ST. Can't wait to try this one out. The mix of strategy and pure action was amazing for the time. Plus tank and plane combat.

@Sarx: I really hope they do, I want them to keep those original sound effects though. I remember the noise of the planes launching from the carrier, so gritty.

Oh god, just listen to it. I haven't been this excited about a game since I heard they were making a new Deus Ex before they fucked it up.

Carrier Commandos!

The beta is pretty good, though the AI vehicle pathfinding is currently a bit shoddy. Hopefully that will improve as the gameplay is good and very deep.

Hell yeah. I remember this.

Heh, hopefully the vehicles are still called Walrus' and Mantas, or was it Mantis, so long ago now.

Welp... still not a clue as to what this game even is. What a helpful trailer.

Vectorgraphics - Evolve!

It's running on the ArmA engine, afaik == needs a DayZ mod.

@Bombzinski: The original game had you in command of an aircraft carrier at one end of a chain of 32 small islands. The enemy 'rogue' carrier was at the other end. You had to move from island to island, capturing them as you went and deciding which resource each island would produce, or whether it would be a defensive island which would attack the enemy carrier if it tried to take it. First to occupy all 32 islands, or destroy the enemy carrier, won. I think I was ten years old when I first played it, now I'm 34.

Seems like my kind of game from what I have seen.

Heh, just remembered a mortifying experience with this game - try to remember I was only ten years old and up until then Sensible Soccer was probably the most complex game I had played!

Once I got to grips with the controls, I ventured out to capture my first island, happily chugging along with the roll of the ocean...the epic feeling as my home island dropped off the horizon...the sense of isolation when all I could see was water...the thrill of anticipation as the first island loomed ahead. I deftly steered my Walrus and dropped the base-builder. I turned to head back - and froze. There was the enemy carrier, waiting for me. I hid behind the volcano on the island and wondered what to do, totally panicking. My puny laser would overheat before it even scratched his hull. My base was a resource one, so it couldn't fight for me once it finished building. I must have sat there for twenty minutes before deciding to go out in a blaze of glory anyway. I charged him with all my speed, firing my ineffective laser for all I was worth. I was amazed I was surviving for as long as I did - perhaps I might survive after all...?

It was my own bloody ship.
