I'd love this play this, but buying a One for it...not yet.

Edited by Hassun

Still the most interesting Xbox 180 title. I hope it's not too much like Dead Rising though...

I'm with Vinny in wanting good objectives too, I doubt just jumping around and shooting monsters will stay interesting for long. Hell it already got old during the trailer for me.

Normally I'm not a huge stickler for this stuff but man this is WAY out of sync.

Posted by fetterdave

You're not kidding, that's some wrecked audio sync.

Posted by conmulligan

The art style still isn't doing anything for me.

Posted by cutyoface

The audio is jacked on this.

I kind of like how energy drinks are the cause of these monster mutations. Just another reason why coffee is better than energy drinks.

Jeff and Rorie, your distaste for coffee would literally make you monsters in the world of Sunset Overdrive.

What a start for this video. Well done, Danny.

The traversal seems really weird to me, I don't know why exactly, but it does look fun.

I bought a Xone for this and Quantum Break. I believe in Insomniac, despite their best efforts to dissuade me with their recent games.

Hi, Danny, I love you.

Good to see this coming along. That first e3 trailer looked like shit. Now it's definitely the thing on the Xbox One that I find most interesting.

Edited by Winsord

I would've figured the audio delay would be the same each time it's off, but I guess it's a little dynamic. So far, +350ms is looking good for me.

Seems to be a common theme of late but yeah this is the worst of it by far.

They are just teasing us with Danny, aren't they?

Forget Sunset Overdrive, I just want dumb banter with Danny and Vinny (a Brad is fine too).

another Zombie game, No thx

Posted by MiniPato

Awesome-pocalypse? I really hope that's just bad PR talk and not implying that they're going for that shitty trying-too-hard-to-be-edgy-and-funny Borderlands 2 writing in the actual game itself.

I like the word awesome, but whenever people combine it with another word like "Awesomesauce," it is literally the worst.

Posted by OurSin_360

I like when games put fun over narrative and realism, who really gives a shit why you can do something as long as it's fun...imo. Like mario with mushrooms, flowers and stars

Posted by Viking_Funeral

So is Danny part of the crew yet, or what?

Also audio issues, something something...

Posted by Ares42

Looks like XboX One will actually have a good launch game.... when it gets released here.

Edited by big_jon

Cool, now put it on YouTube so I can watch it.

Posted by EuanDewar

I think this looks really cool overall but for some reason the thing that stuck out to me the most is how amazing the goo looks.

Posted by Spitznock

I want to be excited for this because it's colorful (and lord knows we need more color in video games nowadays), but the traversal/shooting just doesn't look all that fun to me.

Posted by Aishan

The traversal just looks .. slow. Like there's no real momentum behind anything.

Edited by Thiago123

Has Insomniac discussed any part of the story that tries to explain why you can grind endlessly or jump that high, why are there jumppads and TV stacks everywhere etc? Or is it just, because it's a game and it's fun? Just curious.

You mean the orange stuff? I think that's supposed to be that dangerous energy drink from the game.

I really hope they add some good music to this game. I kind of just want the main character to have a discman and listen to Dookie.

@lausebub: There's all sorts of goo flying everywhere and it looks great

I can't put my finger on it yet, but something about this game pisses me off. Maybe it's the idea that they can slap a bright coat of paint on the utterly stale open world superpower fantasy genre and we'll be fooled.

It didn't show well here, either.

Posted by oljunebug

@minipato: Boy howdy is this game going to disappoint you. The devs have talked about wanting to be able to have the latest memes in the game that could auto-update to stay current.

Also the traversal stuff seems super slow and dull.

Posted by Village_Guy

Looks really enjoyable, I'm really interested to see it in its finished state.

Because the orange Overcharge drink lets you do it, but it's also what transformed the people of the city into grotesque zombies. It also serves as a sort of currency you consume to upgrade your abilities. The game will make you question your choices as a player. Do you sacrifice your own humanity for superhuman powers? How far are you willing to go until you are no longer who you once were? There is a morality system with multiple endings depending on how much Overcharge you have consumed and your character will visually change over the course of the game to reflect your choices. It's a very thought provoking allegory about consumerism and how it turns society into ravenous zombies.

Weirdly enough, I don't want Danny to officially join GiantBomb. I want him to appear regularly in GiantBomb's shows, while GB recruit another one. Thus we get 2 people for the wage of 1.

But will we be allowed to gay marry?

Edited by Renpatsu

500ms audio time shift seems to be fine if people were wondering. Although isn't really an issue since it's just talking over pre-recorded footage.

Posted by Nags

So another open world game where you kill zombies/monsters with a bunch of WACKY weapons.

Looks pretty damn mediocre. But of course this would be the first Insomniac game Brad is interested in. It's on a MS platform ;)

Posted by Cybertification

The microphones are set to stereo for some strange reason.

Posted by langdonx

Is Infamous with guns not an apt comparison here?

Posted by dudeglove

wait, i thought this was a racing game?

Edited by Sunjammer

It looks so random :( I don't get what Insomniac are trying to do here. Just give us endorphin surges through building combo meters that we apparently don't really have to apply much skill to build? Seriously, nothing I saw in that footage looked satisfying to pull off, and if Insomniac want to do an "intense" game they are failing equally. It's got *nothing* on something like Vanquish.

This game, and I hate saying this because I like Insomniac and I think they want to make fun games for the love, looks like the *essential* example of what people talk about when games are just loud boisterous piles of shit going on, driven by money and endless engineering, and how the next generation at least so far hasn't given us more than better textures and more particles.

Posted by GunstarRed

This game, man I know it's going to be the game that pushes me into buying an Xbone. Ratchet+Jet Set+ Dead Rising. aghhhhh!

But will we be allowed to gay marry?

Unfortunately not. This is because of technical reasons though. We are letting you have children with your spouse. So when your character dies, either of old age or otherwise, you get control of your child to carry on through the game. Introducing same-sex marriage would clash with this mechanic and we would have to introduce a whole adoption mechanic and artificial insemination mechanic. We here at Insomniac believe everyone has the right to marry who they love and we want Sunset Overdrive to be fun and inclusive. But right now we really want to focus on the core game mechanics and just make sure we have something that is fun to play. It is definitely something we will work toward in a possible sequel or future projects.

This game looks like it could be neat, but I think they really need to increase the player's movement speed even if it means making it a bit harder to aim and control. The grinding on telephone lines and rails just looks slow and there are far too many instances in videos of this game where the dash lines are showing while the player is, at best, walking at a brisk pace; the sense of speed the game is trying to convey does not at all line up with the speed the character is actually moving at.

For some reason, I find this profoundly boring.
