Nice little demo, looks good. Really liked the fighting sequence.

Driving looks a bit iffy but the combat, hand to hand in particular looks fun!

Looks fun to play to me. Can't wait to try it. Using the environment during fist fights looks interesting as long as the same items you interact with in that scene aren't all there is available throughout the game. Driving also looks pretty fun. It looks like a vidya game.

Fights look strange, it has no personality and I am not really sure what type of style they're going for. Nor does it seem to have any real impact. Maybe it's more fun to play than to watch. The other stuff looks competent enough, though some parts of that city, somehow, manages to look really dead and bland. I'm skeptical, but I do enjoy the setting as someone who really likes Hong Kong action films when they're good. I just wish they would have gone all cantonese with possible exception for non-chinese characters instead of this half-and-half bullshit.

I actually like the way this looks, which is surprising to me.

This was a ''maybe' kind of game for me until I saw this. Pretty much everything put me off - bad graphics, stiff animations, weird physics & horrible car handling, over-the-top br00t4l17y with no hint of humour, gameplay mechanics shoplifted from half a dozen games that all do them better, throwaway/nonsensical story, annoying voicing for the main character... 

A shame, because a GTA ripoff in Hong Kong is already 3/4 of the way to being a really entertaining game, but while this could be fun it looks no more than bargain bucket kind of fun.

Coming out of Saint's Row 3, this video gave me the impression that the controls are pretty bad. Also, visuals remind me of an up-rezed PS2 game.

But who knows, maybe it's awesome.

Man I really didn't know what the hell this game was till a couple weeks ago. I knew that SquareEnix bought the true crime game/series and were going to use the resources already used to make a game but didn't realize they already did it. Instead of this, I kinda wish Square made another Just Cause but I'll probably pick this up during the Steam Sale this xmas (that is if the PC version isn't complete shit).

The True Crime games were always not that great but still pretty fun, so I'll at least give this a chance to redeem itself

What stood out to me the most was the animation especially when the main character was running he seemed to have no weight or physicality to his movements. I think the best example I can give is when Max Payne moves I feel the weight of his movement i can tell when he is shifting his weight from one foot to the other. Seeing this guy run like watching someone game piece being moved around a board. Still I'm cautiously optimistic about the game. The driving seemed fun especially the motorcycle.

If Cantonese-speaking Chinese dudes encounter a Cantonese-speaking Chinese woman in Hong Kong who doesn't understand English well enough to speak it (or would prefer not to), it is implausible that they would speak anything but Cantonese in conversation with her, especially if they want to be polite. Wei clearly showed her respect in the first cutscene, and the guy she was stalking with the cleaver certainly had cause to get on her good side.

I recognize that it's difficult to fill a game with bilingual characters, especially from a writing and voice direction standpoint. That's why I think they should just pick a language for consistency. I'm also the guy who thinks fighting game characters should all speak their native languages.

That mechanic already existed in other games such as Pursuit Force for the PSP (and it did better). Anyway, can't wait to play this game. I just wished there was a full mandarin (or whatever they speak there; you get the point) voice-acting, not a mixture with engrish.

Also Wheelman was an open world game that was released before Just Cause 2. I have never heard of Pursuit Force before, but I guess it's the originator of that mechanic.

But other then that the combat looks freaking cool. Driving seems pretty solid 2 so Ill buy it for sure.

I really need to start proof reading my comments, I don't even know what happened there. But yes, Hong Kong was under British control as late as 1997 and it's still not politically part of China. I hope the city plays a big part in the story since it's a pretty crazy place.

I felt weird when he gave the tutorial-like speech on how to play the minigame, like I'm supposed to do it but I can't because the game isn't even out yet. Looks fun, I'll be interested to see how it turns out.

If you mean that genuinely, you have a poor recollection of those games. The individual areas do seem a little barren, but there's no draw distance or loading issue I can see. It also seems to be running on a PC, but I doubt the console versions are significantly different.

Hmm that totally looks badass and I cant wait to play it but that bit about making sure the fighting was authentic seems odd since the MMA fighter he named was French. Regardless they have my money.

That aggressive cover thing is stupid. They should make you run faster in that bullet time mode so you can dodge bullets. All of those guys could have easily just shot the shit out of you, but they waited for that drawn out animation to finish.

I don't get where all the hate is coming from; that walkthrough was pretty great. Sure, the graphics aren't exactly excellent, and the driving looks a tad iffy - though the guy playing managed to avoid crashing enough that I suspect it feels better than it looks - but the combat looks fun, the setting is interesting, and that chase scene looked like it'd be a blast to play through.

Obviously, we won't know whether or not it's actually a good game until release, but nothing in that trailer seemed to merit the response it's being given - at least, not to me.

This game seems to be shaping up pretty well.  Somehow not at all surprising that Activision dropped it.
 
Maybe it will be this year's August surprise a la Arkham Asylum or Deus Ex.

Also, this looks like it plays like every open-world game that has tried to copy GTAIII and failed in some form or fashion.  It doesn't look like it's for me, but the silly triangulation mini-game has me intrigued just enough for me to check it out.

Hah! When they got to the shooting and driving bit, I thought to myself the only thing that would make this better is if they had a Pursuit Force/Just Cause style hijack.

The brawler to shooter stuff looks really slick, and the melee combat looks snappy and brutal. But I gotta say, "authentic" is quickly becoming one of my least favourite buzz words.

Anyways, this looks fun.

I guess you either love or hate this game by the look of these comments. It seems like some people are just looking for reasons to hate this game though.

It's been on my radar for a while under the "mite b cool" category and while this trailer didn't really change anything about that, I'm planning on picking it up.
