If it's an MMO, aren't you going to be doing a ton of cartoony, stilted combat per story beat?

I wont even play this when it goes free to play 8 months after release. History will remember this game alongside DA:O2 and Mass Effect 3 as the first long expensive nails in the BioWare coffin. Just burn up all the remaning letterhead and rename it EA. Sigh. A once great canadian developer killed off by a once great canadian publisher. Its poetic in its sithlordlyness.

What's this once great Canadian publisher you're talking about?

I'm still not sure what class I want to be in this game even though I preordered it.

Played the beta all weekend, actually playing it right now, an absolute RPG MMO master piece. The budget for this game was 500 million and it shows.

I reckon that next month I'll be too busy playing Firefall (which I strongly suspect is going to be a sleeper megahit, even though it's only recently caught my attention) to care what's going on with ToR (which never really impressed me), and in 8 months I'll be too busy playing Guild Wars 2, Diablo III, and Blizzard Dota to really care what MMOs go F2P at that point. This is going to be a hell of a year for online games, I think. Well, it's probably wishful thinking that all of that stuff will be out by then, but I hope that at least Guild Wars 2 is.

(The weird part of that list is that all of that stuff is either from Blizzard or from companies founded by former Blizzard dudes...)

Next to the signature BioWare flourishes, the environments are the next most impressive aspect of the game. Each planet is so unique, each tunnel feels hand-crafted, and every area overwhelms you with scale. Not once in 30 hours did I feel like I was entering the same reused cave. Hell, each planet has several cantinas. I would have figured them to be copy and pasted. Not the case. I made it my goal to seek out every cantina and inspect them--each was remarkably unique.

First time I landed on Nar Shadda and Coruscant I was absolutely blown away. While it may not offer too many reasons to explore (codex entries, exploration XP, and holocrons), the desire to explore sort of comes naturally with how beautifully detailed and unique all their environments feel.

I got my healing trooper up to 20. And let me tell you, some of those trooper helmets look pretty damn dorky too.

These trailers from what I've heard seem like the worst possible way to represent what this game is bringing to the table.

this seems awfully cynical. Yes DA 2 had problems and dissapointed many but it wasn't a bad game. Most people who have been playing this have been saying some really positive things about it. As for ME3, that game isn't even out yet, how can you judge it? EA doesn't seem to be having the greatest effect on Bioware, but that's is no reason to say that it's going to die.

There's really no particular difference in where you get a MMORPG from, save for the cost and any annoying store exclusives there might be. The fact that you haven't bought any is probably why you don't realize that. You're basically just buying an access code in most cases, especially if you're not getting discs. (Even discs quickly become irrelevant with most of them, as all of the data on them becomes outdated.)

@BitterAlmond: The combat is actually pretty quick and 'snappy', at least the lower level stuff I tried in the beta weekend.

I was not so sure about this game but since I played the beta this weekend I'm somewhat convinced and really enjoyed it. The fact that you follow a main story (your class story) gives you purpose to go on and to find what happens next. Also the fact that all dialogues have voiceover is a great way to give you more insight about the universe and the fiction, instead of just accepting random quests without knowing what's going on.

I was wondering about that. This is the first game footage I've seen, and it is not impressive. It's good to know that the other areas are well done

Yeah, the combat looks pretty janky and unsatisfying... Just like every other MMO out there. Should be good.

Does not look too bad for a MMO, but I dunno man.. I think I am through with MMOs after playing wow for a couple of years. Unless I see some real innovations in that genre, I'd rather stick to singleplayer games.

It would be nice if they would give Guild Wars 2 like any attention at all at some point. Forget all of this Star Wars stuff. For long term impact on how people look at the genre, that's the game to look out for.

They should re-make the KoToR games for modern consoles. I remember liking them a lot, but never finishing them because of the long load times and terrible frame rate. If not, I guess Mass Effect is pretty much that minus lightsabers!
