Watch_Dogs Welcomes You to Chicago

Nowhere in this video did I see a single Portillo's location. Truly, this is a place of dystopic nightmare.

I'm sorry Watch_Dogs but Infamous: Second Son already came out. You're officially dead to me now. I might still rent this but it missed its window for it to be a must buy. Especially for next gen/the new consoles.

@amyggen: No it didn't. Have you watched it recently? I watched it yesterday and it did look better than this trailer but it was nowhere near Infamous: Second Son levels. The lighting for one looked way worse than Infamous. They aren't using physically based shading techniques in Watch Dogs as far as I can tell so the lighting, shadows, and reflections just can't look nearly as good. Mind you they look better in the 2012 trailer than they do here but they don't hold a candle to Infamous. Likewise the explosions look much better in the 2012 version, but they don't feature the tens of thousands of individually lit particles that Infamous uses for its fire and smoke effects, and even in that 2012 version the fire looks to be rendered in low resolutions, instead of the full resolution alpha effects seen in Infamous. Basically the only major notable difference between the reveal footage and the current footage is a minor lighting downgrade and a pretty noticeable texture and alpha resolution downgrade. Everything else can be chalked up to ambient weather. A warm rainy night with low hanging fog is always going to look better than a bright sunny day or even a normal nighttime within the same engine. Look at how much cooler MGSV looks during the main mission compared to the side ops. There doesn't seem to be any sort of global illumination going on, so daytime just isn't going to look as nice as the very specific weather shown in the reveal.

Not to say the latest trailers don't look downgraded from the reveal because they do in a handful of ways, but there is nothing I've seen that shows the type of downgrade people have been saying there is.

These trailers are for the PS3/360 versions right? because this doesn't look nearly as good as that first trailer or the E3 demo.

Not having Portillo's represented makes it a more accurate Chicago, because there's really only the one in the city itself, in the touristy area downtown. Portillo's basically represents hot dogs for the suburbs. Chicago itself is more about the independent hot dog places. I'd be more impressed seeing a Vienna Beef logo. That is the area's primary hot dog supplier and they tend to have lots of signs up at the various restaurants. You may also see Red Hot Chicago signs, and they are acceptable, but I am less likely to go to a place that serves their product.

really hard to tell if this is a joke comment or not but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, there was recently a big hubub about a substantial graphics downgrade in comparison to that E3 demo.

It's a shame they dialed way back on the futuristic/blade runner aesthetic. That was the only thing keeping me interested in this game. This is a blatant rip-off of the GTA "feature breakdown" trailers. I can't stand GTA. What a disappointment.

They should have made the game on PC, xbox one and PS4 so at least it would feel like an next gen game (current-gen now).

I think this game proves that "having a good E3" means nothing and best of E3 awards are pointless

Well its multiplatform with last gen and its Ubisoft what did you expect?

They are developing a next gen engine for AC:unity so maybe thats when next gen actually starts for Ubi. To bad for them infamous exists otherwise this would be pretty neat.

I wasn't sure about the news so that's why I asked, if is then that's really dissapointing. Why would they show a game still in development with that much graphic fidelity if that wasn't going to be what the final game is?

The new generation of consoles hadn't even been announced at the time they showed it off at E3, they were using very high end PC's to show it off at the time, assuming that would be similar to the tech in the new machines, but which turned out to be using a pretty modest hardware, which they then had to scale and optimize for. It's also a very different thing to make a slice of a game to show off at events like that than to create a complete game. Knowing what they would show they most likely spent their efforts into making that particular stuff look really good, even if the game engine and technology wouldn't be able to handle that fidelity at a larger scale at the time.

@hatking: Well that makes me kinda nervous.

I like how people are complaining that this looks like GTA V. GTA V is a great looking game despite the low resolution, but I think it runs like absolute shit. When you barely break 30 looking at the ground, that just isn't good enough. Also, the amount of garbage, facial expression, sharpness and crispness of the ambient occlusion with the (what I think is) simulated GI makes all the objects and characters seem more grounded in the world. It just looks really good to my eyes.

But all that is just graphics, I just hope it`s fun, and that it wont go bat shit insane. You know like giant spider mechs.

Infamous might be pretty but it was boring and lifeless, Watchdogs looks like the much more interesting game.

Well Second son is very shallow compared to Infamous 2 thats true but they actually managed to release the first true "next gen" game so its a feat nontheless, a fully featured launchtitle has never existed and never will. Missing that window watchdogs has much to prove, with last gen graphics and long delays theres no excuse for anything but a masterpiece.

@jjz: truth. The only one I know of in Chicago proper is right over by the chicago brown line stop. Now people from, say, Arlington Heights or Lake Forest LOVE portillos, because that's what they have in their suburb.

Portillo's is a suburb thing. There is only one in the city.
