Stealth release! Hurray! The Souls videos are my favourite thing on the site.

Edited by OptimalPower

Oh word? This should be good.

I haven't finished the game yet, I hope this isn't too late game so that I can watch it right away!

Edit: It totally isn't, I'm only one area ahead but it's enough.

About twenty minutes ago I was thinking, "Man, I'm surprised no Souls content has come out this week, I hope that changes!"

I'm kind of a psychic. And a foodie. A foochic.

Dark Lord V-Bomb returns!

The lag on PS3 Vinny mentions has to be his PS3. Because I play on PS3 and do not have those UI lag issues.

Am I missing these live streams or is the "We're Playing Dark Souls Too!" series not streamed?

You're just lucky or not noticing it. It's a known issue with the PS3 version.

I moved onto other things after a dozen hours, and although I had fun it may be real hard to get back in.

Watching this after walking away to a game like Infamous makes me realize how completely unique these games are.

Maybe its an issue with the disc version only then. I downloaded off PSN. There is no lag on the UI at all for me. Its not that I am lucky or not noticing it. It simply doesn't exist.

EDIT: Let me clarify that. UI lag. Hitting start and going into and doing things in the menu. Doesn't exist for me. There is input lag in switching weapons, items/spell slots etc. But that all version, not just PS3. The UI thing must be disc only.

Get the Halberd, level it to +10, infuse lightning on the Halberd, you just beat Dark Souls 2.

They are not streamed live. I believe it's to avoid potential Potato_Marshals.

Obligatory, annoying Dark souls comment. Vinny could use upgrading his stuff a bit. At this point in the game it helps a lot to have a weapon on the +5s at least.

Oh, what a beautiful plac- HOMINGSOULARROW HOMINGSOULARROW HOMINGSOULARROW YOU'RE DEAD!

Posted by Kjebka

The later areas in Dark Souls 2 really feel like a reaction to how strength builds trivialized late areas of the first game. It feels like the first thing in their minds making these areas was "Think you're just gonna tank through and smash everything? How do you like THIS!"

Hey Vinny, about your trouble with ultra greatswords; a lot of heavier weapons (like ultra greatswords, greathammers, etc.) don't lock on enemies when you swing, even if you are actually locked on to an enemy. What this means is that if you start your swing, and then backpedal, you will turn around and hit the empty space behind you (in the direction you were walking), instead of still hitting the lock-on target in front of you like in DS1.

It's a weird change, but not something you can't get used to eventually if you still want to use big ass swords. Hope this helps!

Vinny's characters thumbs up when he dies at 23:25, can't believe they didn't comment on that?

Is it just me or does this game kinda look like shit?

Edited by Deathpooky

The difficulty definitely jumps once you hit the castle and beyond. Those enemies just don't stagger, tons of damage, poison, equipment breakage, thin battle spaces, big groups of hard enemies. Pretty much a greatest hits of bad shit from before.

Then the next level hits...

I think at that point it really helps to have a near-fully upgraded weapon, since your scaling stats will be maxed. Vinny looked like he had a lot of +2/3 weapons that need twinkling, which is tough since that's much harder to come by. Normal weapons at that point you probably have enough shards/chunks/slabs to upgrade one or two to +10. Upgrades to the pyro glove also make that do a ton more damage.

Commendable that Vinny can meet that brick wall and not get frustrated by it. Though maybe it's a different story when he's alone. Fuck, this is why I went magic. No worries about ever not doing enough damage.

Posted by ChalkCharmer

Vinny I think I might love you.

Posted by GenesisZ

i am not looking forward to this area :(

Posted by Hansolol

Can't wait to hear Vinny talk about his experience in Shrine of Amana when he gets there.

Posted by frankiebeanz

I REALLY WANT THIS GAME! but that would require me getting another ps3 because my old 60 gig died on in June right after I beat last of us. what really sucks is I paid for it to be repaired and the one Sony sent me only lasted a couple of months and they wouldn't replace it. wish it came out on ps4 :(

Posted by Sarumarine

Oh wow, I didn't know Havel's set was in this game.

Posted by zktr

Vinny is going to LOVE Amana with his playstyle / build. Hope he figures out the easiest way around it is to cheese everything with a bow from a mile away.

Vinny "Soul Hole" Caravella

That's gross and great. Kudos.

Trying to fight guys with unupgraded weapons 75% of the way through the game. I had 2 +10 weapons (blunt and cutting) by that point with A scaling in strength. Vinny, you can do much better than a pursuer great sword +3, just find a normal weapon in your inventory with max (like A or B) scaling in strength and get it to +10.

Edited by Bam_Boozilled

Excitement! Best word to express when I see these videos. It is really cool that you guys are tracking your progression. Now I can compare you guys to me and my coop buddy as we progress through the game. Kind of like some weird Let's play. Other than peaking at the wiki for some tidbits, this is the only dark souls 2 content I get outside of playing the game.

@gasparnolasco Potato_Marshal? I kinda want to know the background story.

Edited by RubberFactory

Vinny should really upgrade his weapons more, it makes a huge difference in their effectiveness.

Posted by Clonedzero

Nice.

I dont know how anyone can stand those huge slow weapons and that huge armor. feels so sluggish to me. I prefer the "quality" weapons and medium armor personally. But hey if it works it works. Also vinny's armor didnt seem to protect him much, those ruined sentinels were doing roughly the same amount of damage to me and i was wearing significantly inferior armor.

The UI thing is not disc-only. But it is definitely a PS3 thing. I get it all the time, in addition to sound bugs where people don't speak aloud sometimes, or the sword impacts happen way later.

As someone whos character's only defense is rolling, it makes me just a little bit happy seeing Vinny's tank struggle with areas/enemies that weren't too much of a problem for me. I always thought going full tank mode made things easier, but apparently it has its drawbacks as well.

I see what part of the problem might be. Vinny is using heavy ass armor so he can't roll or evade well, but has almost 200 total less defense than I do with my combination of upgraded medium and light armor. He should really look into upgrading that stuff. It doesn't take that long to get all the materials or souls required either. Even titanite slabs are pretty easy to get. If you agro the enemies carefully, that room with the stone guys and gold sentinel dudes is a great spot for getting souls and slabs.

Also, Vinny's health stat seems really low. Maybe he just doesn't feel like he needs it if he's wearing heavy armor?

Edited by TheBlue

Vinny's scrappy play style always brings a smile to my face. I wish him the best of luck in the shrine. That place is a melee character's living nightmare.

The UI lag is definitely an issue on the PS3 discs, though. Especially when you're loading to a new area it takes FOREVER if you try to bring up the menu or say, talk to the Emerald Herald. The framerate, I think is a bit exaggerated. It's not a perfect, solid 60, but it never dips like Dark Souls 1 did. That's plenty good enough for me.

A lot of classic Dark Souls moments in this video! :D

Posted by Demoskinos

@clonedzero: I like large weapons because they hit hard. Sure, they are slow but you just have to learn to pick your spots. I beat Velstadt solo two handing the Pursuer Great Sword while fat rolling dodging him. Its all about just adjusting your timing on how you engage. And sure, there are going to be fights where that style is less advantageous but there are also fights that are visa versa. I took out the Giant Lord in 5 hits with my Pursuer Great Sword and it was fantastic just smashing him.
