The most surprising thing about the Spelunky 2 announcement is that they're going back to that well a 3rd time. Hope it's not just the same thing with a few extra items and secrets or something.

Er, what was the second time Spelunky went "back to that well"? Or are you referring to the early 2000s 8-bit retro-looking free-to-download Spelunky demo, which was more of an experiment than a full game?

In other subjects: Concrete Genie looks super rad. There wasn't much explanation of game mechanics (unless "make street art and get your ass handed to you by bullies over and over" is the mechanic), but the look of that game really stood out to me.

Duders to avoid curdling milk in your hot drink, you gotta get it spinning while you slowly pour it in, then it can't curdle in clumps, it just blends.

Also why do they have these weird Sony jokers commenting on the pre-show? Why can't we get Shane Bettenhausen and Nick Suttner?

"It's time to dive into the Sims!"

My dude, literally no one believe that you actually think that in 2017.

Brad looks about 17 years old in this video, its actually kind of amazing.

The difference between 17-year-old Brad and 33-year-old Dan is that Brad actually washed that hoodie before wearing it.

I noticed during the livestream, Sony fans seemed largely apathetic/hostile to all the new footage being shown. Must be disheartening being a Sony exclusive developer and not getting much love from the console's user base.

I don't think we were watching the same pre-show. I thought it was pretty boring except for Guacamelee 2 and The Gardens Between (I don't care about Spelunky) while almost everything during the main show looked solid.

I think not caring about Spelunky is the big difference there, because a lot of people who care about Spelunky really care about Spelunky. We're not just talking, "Oh yeah I liked that game" here; I've heard many people (and I would include myself in this list) who would consider Spelunky as one of the best games of all time and one of the closest to being able to be described as perfect.

I've watched so many people go from not really caring about that game, or just having a vague interest, to falling head-over-heels in love with it. Almost nothing they could have shown in the main show would have trumped that for me as both a complete out-of-nowhere surprise and an exciting announcement.

Anyway, I think they used them only because they're part of the European Playstation team and not so much because they're recognizable. When they do streams in other countries none of the hosts are that well known either.

I would have guessed that they were brought in precisely as recognisable faces. I'd imagine outside of people who closely follow everything going on in games, the primary audience for this would be the slightly more casual PlayStation-focused audience. That's pretty much precisely the target market for a product like PlayStation Access.

I know a fair few people who play games a lot, don't follow the industry super-closely, but do watch PS Access. I saw quite a few people excitedly posting pictures with them from the recent EGX. Sure, not everyone is going to know them, but I suspect they were brought in as familiar faces. Obviously people's mileage on "official" reporting sources will vary, but they would definitely be the most appropriate pull if you wanted someone closely associated with, but not directly part of, the PlayStation brand in Europe.

@y2ken: Yeah, I get that. I don't like Binding of Isaac either, but the fanbase for that one is just as rabid. I'm just not particularly fond of run-based games, I'd rather have a self-contained story mode. Like La-Mulana, one of MY favorite games of all time.

I really miss GB... Ya'll were my heroes, but now ya'll flat as Ben's humor. Don't get me wrong I'm sure there's a reason for all this censorship, I just miss the harder-edged and goofball antics of only a couple years ago.

The real question is has anyone ever ported Spelunky Classic to the SNES? I'd totally dig a ROM of that I could play on my SNES Classic.
