If you haven't played the demo of The Stanley Parable, it is my solemn vow to tell you to go and play the demo of The Stanley Parable. I would really recommend not watching Patrick playing it until you've played it yourself.

OK. ;)

I came here to watch it to see what all the fuss is about, and now I'm instead immediately leaving to just go play the damn thing myself. Didn't know there was a demo. Thanks!

---

Edit: Wow that was bad. Well, maybe not all bad, the style and voice acting were great, but the game part... just awful.

Pointing out obvious things about games is in no way "commentary". This isn't analysis of tropes or linearity (or the "existential crisis of making a demo". really?!?), it's a game screaming at you the whole time that it's trying desperately to say something about something and making no point of it's own along the way. And in doing so, is a completely vapid experience in itself.

Okay, maybe "Hey, Achievement's are dumb, right?" is saying something, but I don't need a game to tell me that. I need a game that makes Achievements worthwhile.

Still looking forward to trying the main game, but if this demo is any indication, this kind of post-modern ignorant faux-philosophy is not for me.

Warning: You should come to the Stanley Parable Demo fresh and unprepared. Be sure to download and do it before watching Patrick play it. I greatly enjoyed it yesterday.

That fourth “Famous Demo” you couldn’t identify in the Stanley Parable Demonstration was Limits & Demonstrations, the non-demo demo of Kentucky Route Zero (also contains no story elements that appear in the actual game).

Wow. Didnt know Stanley parable was out so soon. That's great!

I'm in agreement with this. :)

You should play the Stanley Parable demo before watching the Stanley Parable being played by Patrick playing the Stanley Parable demo within the Stanley Parable demo, as the Stanley Parable demo should be played fresh instead of after watching someone play the Stanley Parable demo before you yourself play the Stanley Parable demo. It's the best way to do things.

Definitely play the 8 game for awhile.

Watching two minutes of the Stanley Parable, yea I think I need to stop watching and play this for myself. This seems like it will be.. something.

I'm in agreement with this. :)

If you get the chance you should spend more time in the 8 button room, some of the best writing in the demo is there.

I don't understand people who prefer watching others play rather than playing games themselves...

Is there more after the first "you've been in here after I told you to go!" response?

I feel like the Stanley Parable will just be like Portal.

@dsi1: Absolutely. Patrick missed a lot by just leaving. There is atleast 3-4 minutes worth of extra dialogue if you stay and continue to hit the button. Some of the best writing in the demo.

I was hoping he'd check out the Stanley Parable demo. Swear it's one of my favorite things I've played all year.

The original was really interesting.

I like how he completely missed that "bro" conversation the two were having in Mundane. "She wanted the D"

I'm going to agree with everyone else here. Play The Stanley Parable demo first. It's incredible. I have never heard of it before today. Now, it might be my most anticipated game of the year.

I am so stoked for The Stanley Parable. It's not often I go into a game knowing absolutely nothing, especially after a demo. This is so insanely clever, my anticipation is sky high.

watching patrick play the first game is giving me a headache and i needed to skip that part. so unsmooth.

Posted by RetroVirus

I am a fan of the original Stanley Parable mod; glad to see that this is getting some buzz.

Posted by Skillsne

I made the decision to play the demo of The Stanley Parable before watching Patrick play through it. I recommend everyone doing the same thing.

I just played The Stanley Parable demo and thought it was unbearable. It's really weird to see a bunch of people whom I think to be really funny themselves think that the demo was funny.

Edited by Giganteus

Made sure not to watch this before playing The Stanley Parable demo. It's pretty well done.

@sissylion: What was unbearable about it for you?

Posted by Burger_Time

Patrick did the exact same thing I did at that reception desk.

The Stanley Parable demo was a waste of 30 minutes i'll never get back. That crap was tedious as fuck... not even a tiny bit funny or clever.

Not sure how anyone could find it unfunny, but I guess humor works differently for different people.

Where can I find NullDivide+? Google is failing me.

Also, I guess I've been living under a rock, because this is the first I've heard of The Stanley Parable. I paused the video to play the demo myself and I'm completely hooked for the full release.

I loved the original Stanley Parable, and that demo was so much better than I could've hoped.

Posted by SecularBaron

I thought the Stanley Parable demo had some really awesome commentary.

Yeah, not very funny. The wall joke was the funniest thing of the whole thing. I get the commentary and stuff but it's just dumb observational humor. Good job, you pointed out something in a British voice!

Gassssp! is Worth Playing even real?

That demo is the most hipster ass unfunny thing ever.

The Stanley Parable's narration sounds great. It is done in the same style as the original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio serious that was done by the BBC. If you have never heard it you should find it. It is very funny.

Sold on Stanley Parable. Can't wait to check it out.

Not enough blood or dick jokes for some here I guess
