I'm really impressed with the first one. I've been using it for a couple weeks, and aside from it missing my actions every now and then, it's a pretty neat weight loss tool.

Owning stuff like this and living in a second story apartment introduces a whole other level of workout stress to the equation.

I liked the first. But I sold my Kinect. It is clearly not suited for tiny european apartments.

I want to make a an XBLA or Indie fitness game for Kinect. All it should do is put in big fat letters on the screen: "Stop trying to lose weight using a console. get OUT of your living room!"

Seriously. All these companies must know that they're misleading those of their customers who still fit through the door. This is a suboptimal way to lose weight to say the least, and it won't make you look like any of the people in the video.

The first one is quite well implemented. It does a great job of tracking your body, and it gives accurate feedback during workouts.

If 2012 is just the old game with more stuff to do, that's all it needs to be.

I lost 2lbs just buy using kinect software for an hour everyday, 3 days a week for about a month (not that I'm overweight but I too was skeptical about it's impact). Kinect and software like this are a great way to get people interested in fitness while keeping the commitment level down. You never feel pressured by anything and you can walk away without any shame if it's too much for you.

If you stick with it, you'll find yourself wanting to do more to exercise outside of these programs.

You probably won't go from 300lb to 160lb and become some extremely beautiful person unless you use Your Shape 5 hours a day everyday for about a year but it really can help. I don't think it's intended as the only means of getting fit but rather a supplement to your routine.

Every exercise plan is misleading, losing weight is all about the diet. Work out all you want if you eat like shit you're gonna stay fat.

It's simple really. You lose weight by consuming less calories than you use. If you're active enough you can eat a hell of a lot of junk. If you aren't, you need to fix your diet without hurting your metabolism. The point here is that exercise is good for you whether it's to lose weight or not, and that this is a pretty lousy way to get some exercise.

I don't mean to belittle your results, but 1) 2lbs is waaaay under the margin of error here. That is easily just a big shit, a different time of day or a different scale. In comparison I easily fluctuate 4-5lbs during the day and I regularly see ordinary scales vary 2-3lbs. 2) 2lbs in a month would honestly be rather tiny results, even if you're only using it three hours per week.

I hope you're right about it being a potential gateway drug for people who are scared of, or dislike, exercise. In a perfect world they'd buy this stuff, use it a bit and realize that exercise itself isn't that bad, but that this game really wasn't that fun OR that good of a workout.
If you already have an exercise 'routine' as you put it, I really don't see where a Kinect game comes in though.

I didn't really intent to get into a larger exercise/dieting/weightloss discussion on a video game site. The amount of misinformation and stupid products out there just ticks me off. It's overall (not specifically talking games here) disgusting how much money is made off people's hopes and dreams of getting in shape easily.

Idk, dude. That game did a great job of making me sweaty and breathless when I picked a good routine to stick with from the list. I've actually lost like 25 pounds with pretty much only Kinect, though that could be due to copious amounts of Dance Central...

In any case, not EVERYONE is out to make easy money by slapping "LOSE WEIGHT!" on a product. A good number of times it doesn't work because because the fatty in question gives up. Still, I can understand the skepticism.

This game is probably good for people who really don't want to be seen exercising in public. Few people would want to invest in a home gym from the start, and this looks way more fun than an exercise dvd.

@Mumrik: Why are you condemning this? I understand that you don't want to do it, and that's fine. But why condemn something that encourages people to move more, that adds a game element to it - something many of those visiting sites such as this may find helpful in motivating them to get started?

Personally, I've used the previous "game" and I think it's an excellent way of getting started - I'd be using it regularly if it wasn't for my poor downstairs neighbours. :P

But just because I've used it, and think it's "not bad", doesn't mean I'm deluded into thinking it'll solve all my problems. It won't make me me more fit nor will it loose weight for me. I have to do those things. But spending some time with Your Shape is far from harmfull to me, or to you.

My opinion, anyway.
