Also, I heard hard mode is the way to go for this game. Any truth to it?

about 6-7 hours on normal (or hard probably, since thats the number ive seen thrown around for hard runs too). And i thought it was fine on normal, its not Darksiders where normal was clearly easy, and hardcore was normal

I played it on Normal and it took me about 8-9 hours. But that's probably just because I liked using the Bolter and nothing else.

I'm about 8 hrs in and going on the last chapter, so say 8-9 hrs. I'm playing on normal and it's pretty easy. Some of the improved weapons and upgrades make Titus a little op maybe. A hard run will be fun after this one.

I'm playing on hard, 4 hours in and just met chaos for the first time. I'd guess thats about 50% in so 8-9 sounds resonable.
