Used my 360 wired controller to play Dead Space on the PC when it just died. When I connect it to the USB port it shines but then goes black and windows doesn't detect anything.

If I plug it into my 360 while it is turned off it displays what I think is some kind of error message. The upper left and lower right light shines green on the controller and if the 360 is turned on it does what it does on the PC, lights up and then goes black and doesn't work.

It's a wired controller so it can't be a battery problem. what is wrong!? Is it broken!?

    Help is appreciated! =)

Easiest solution would be to buy a new one. Things break, fact of life.

You can find support for wired controllers here. Hopefully that will help.

Nothing about the error message I get =( Can't buy a new one for some time. In all my gaming life since NES and Master System to the current generation I've never had a controller just die in the middle of a game like this. I've had buttons not working sure but I can't understand why it just died. Since the lights still work it must be getting power. Even if it can't be fixed I would like to know what's wrong just out of curiosity.

Yeah, but many games are better designed for a controller, like Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 (which is almost impossible to play with the keyboard and it has no mouse support).

EDIT: I'm happy to announce that the problem has been solved! I opened the controller up and cleaned all the connectors and such up on the circuit board. Works fine now =)
