i was turning it on to play the mirrors edge demo (SO AWESOME!) and i was greeted with the three red ligths.
this is my fourth broken 360, every time they send me a brand new one, and i take good care of it, but they all seem to break around this time (a month or two before Christmas)
worst thing is, when i called 1800-4MYXBOX i was put on hold, and Microsoft made me listen to this terrible piano jazz solo.
im glad i have a PC and a Wii to play while i wait.
also, when i called they said i could send it back in my own box. they'll email me the stuff to put on the box and stuff.
regardless it'll probably take over a month to get a new failbox back.
Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 is the second game console produced by Microsoft Corporation and is the successor to the original Xbox.
i got the three red lights!
I just got on my second model. That stinks man. Worse comes to worse, you can buy yourself another model.
When you say you treat well, just exactly what does that mean?
Does it include any of the following:
1. Hooking up the 360 to a power conditioning rack system.
2. Kept running in a cooled environment.
3. When a DVD game isn't being played, you log into your Profile so it
parks the DVD rather than letting it spin for hours on end while the game
is paused?
4. Playing 6-10 hours per day.
5. Moving it around from one place to another frequently.
My own guess is that if you use your 360 for games several hours
a day for several months, it'll probably wear it out quickly. Ie, it fails
on a stress test after 6 months or so (or less in your case since
you have already gone through 4 360s...it's unimaginable to me
how this could happen to you).
"When you say you treat well, just exactly what does that mean?i play my 360 like 2-3 hours a week lately, this 360 has hadly been used compared to my friends which has not broken yet, but hes been using, leaving on overnight, for over 2 years. and ya, its been pretty cool, i live in a place where in the summer its mid 20s.

those cooling racks that attach to the 360 are death. They take their power from the CPU which can potentially lower the performance of the xbox.
That really sucks, especially since I knew you from Nsider :( Before it closed I thunk.
Hope I don't get it, what causes it?
"Yeah I was on my third and I switched over to the PS3, will never go back : )"you are very unlucky , my 360 is working like a loyal girl , she is a good girl :P lol
"When you say you treat well, just exactly what does that mean?Regardless of the condition it's kept in, no console should break 4 times, unless literally being kicked around. My friend is now on his 6th console. I feel so sorry for him, although it doesn't bother him that much I think.

I just had mine fail after two years. One of my Friends had his original unit fail twice and he replaced with a new arcade. In response to what Lind said, if it's failing within six months in stress tests that's unacceptable. Even if someone has the time to game 6 hrs a day it should last three years in my opinion (assuming it's properly cared for, well ventilated, not move it around while it's on, etc.)
"Me and your mom had three red lights last night. giggity giggity"Yeah? Well your mom and I had a blue screen of death. It was fucking hot.

strange... I have had mine since launch and it works perfectly, yet my wii has failed on me twice now. (and its on the fritz again...)
I just had mine replaced about 3 months ago. It took along time, I was without it for 4 weeks. See when I called in to MS the dude told me that they would be shipping the box, I know how it works, I have had several friends go though the routine so I waited patiently for the box. 2 weeks go by and I call up to say WTF where is my return box. It was then they told me that I supply the box. Frustrating to say the least. Ok I hang up the phone and go online to print my label and I can't because the order for the label has expired. So I call back and get a new repair order and finnaly get my xbox out the door. After all that I got it back fairly quickly
I'm on my second one and its lasted me really long.... well thats cuz i hardly ever turn it on lol PS3 FTW!
*sigh* that's the only damn thing keeping me from buying that stupid xbox, I still have my NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Wii, PS3, PS2 all in perfect working condition (including controllers, except for the SNES which I screwed up myself) I cringe at the idea of buying anything and having it break down especially a console, specially since I don't live int he US so I have ltitle to no hope when it comes to customer service.
I'm just not int he mood of playing russian roulette every time I pop in a disk. Also WTF! at the list of things you have to do to ensure not having RROD! No system should require those things.
well I have my X360 since November 2007 , I have also attached Nyko 's intercooler and never played more than 4 hours at a time , so far I have not experienced a single problem of anykind whatsoever . it seems most of the Xbox manufactured in 2005 and 2006 got some serious technical issues though .
