It's not based off of a Japanese cartoon or comic book is it? The reason I ask is because I saw this book at amazon.com and it made me wonder. Or is that just the style that Prima decided to go with? So far the only info I got on Kameo is that it was going to be for GameCube and that it's pretty much an original game.

The book was published 2 years after the game was released, so nope.

It was originally in development for the Gamecube. After Microsoft bought Rare it was switched over to be a launch title for the Xbox 360. It met with positive reviews, but like most Rare games on the 360, had less than stellar sales.
