Whats the easiest/cheapest way to transfer my data from an old harddrive to a new one?

I'm buying it from ebay, so mailing microsoft for one of those free cables it out of the picture, for I did not buy an elite.

I've heard rumors that you can get two xbox's together, link them, then transfer data. Is that true?

I too would like to know, but from what I can tell, connecting the Xboxes is the only way of doing it unless there's something i'm missing.

Awh man, I thought I had an answer that involved transferring licenses from the Xbox website. But that won't work I don't think.
