So up to speed real quick.

On July 22 I got an email saying that my XBL account had been successfully changed regions to Brazil, ah nope I’m still here in Denver. I called Xbox support instantly and filed an “unauthorized access” service request, at which time I was told it could take up to two workweeks to correct this.

August 16 I got this email from Xbox support.

    Dear Xbox LIVE Customer,

Your report of an unauthorized access to your Xbox LIVE account has been reviewed by our fraud investigations team. However, there is a delay in processing your request, so we're sending you a free, 30-day Xbox LIVE membership code that you can use to create a new, temporary account.

Please accept this prepaid code with our apologies for the delay:

XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX 1 Mo Live Gold (CSR)

We may contact you again within 30 days.

If you have any questions, you can reply to this message or call Xbox Support. Please reference service request number <#########@> in all communications regarding this issue.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Sincerely,

    The Xbox LIVE Escalations Team

    Here was my response.

I was just wondering what the delay is?

I mean I have enough emails and such to build a case that my account was stolen (emails that I got from either the THIEF or one branch or another of Microsoft I might add), much less the dozen or so real life everyday friends that have seen this all happen that will in fact tell you I am not in Brazil, nor have I ever. I don't even want to think about all the things you people can see to verify my account was stolen.

I'm very displeased by this whole thing for reasons I hope are clear, It really upsets me that due to foolishly having matching passwords on Xbox Live and a gaming site's (one that encourages you to list your gamertag) forum that was attacked by hackers claiming to be LOL-Sec my password was lost along with my email address, and my gamertag was a matter of public record of course, this has happened. And even more upsetting is that I cannot even be the LOYAL (SIX YEARS OF LIVE, SIX.) I was going to be and spend loads of MS points on ALL the summer of arcade games, in the time since my account was stolen I've bought two full priced NEW retail 360 games, but I dare not play them because no one can give me a real answer about A) if I will get MY account back or not. B) If things I do with my Xbox off line could mess up anything either when I get it back or with getting it back. (Please note that my Xbox has been unplugged and TOTALLY off line since the day this happened, I also save my profile to a USB drive.)

Also love the fact that all the checks and balances almost helped this jack off steal my account such as well let me paint a word picture here (My line are in Bold) "please verify the last four numbers of the credit card on this account" (PS when an account is changed regions the credit card is removed) "####" "I'm sorry that doesn't appear to match, did you maybe have a different card on this account?" "Sure, try ####" "sorry sir that also isn't it." "Well hell, I've never put any other card on this account." "Let me place you on hold and ask my supervisor" "sure thing."... ... "Sir it sounds like from my supervisor that whenever she has seen an account region changed that all credit card numbers are removed by OUR system." "Removed, huh. Well I guess that means I didn't need to cancel that card first, wait so you don't even have a record of either of these cards being on this account?" "Well sir we might but the system doesn't even let us access high level account info if you cannot verify the account.”

What are you people thinking? Locking all account info behind a wall? Giving loopholes like that to thieves. And WOW FIRE people. When I get told four or five different answers to ONE question from two reps in one day, like the very first rep I spoke with told me he had seen things just like this and that he was going to lock the account pending investigation, well if he had locked the account (DON'T CARE IF HE COULD, HE SAID HE WOULD) my six year old gamertag would NOT have been change from "Ender 0bitus" to "SonaFaca x BR", All my MS point wouldn't have been spent or transferred (I was sitting on some thing around 5100 or 5400 MS points), AND MY WHOLE (sorry) FRIENDS LIST WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ERASED, sorry I don't know everyone I was friends with in person. So if my account is not RESTORED IN FULL (tag, points, friends, tenure badge and all that) it is only the fault of this shoddy system of handling issues and reps that LIE.

Have not heard from anyone at Microsoft since.

That email loses me. It could have been a bit more concise.

I remember when I got my account stolen. I got it back but it took a month and like 3 hours on the phone. Also I knew the gamertag the thief switched my account to so that helped.

It was entirely your fault that your account got stolen. Let it be a lesson to you to NEVER have the same passwords for anything.

Sounds like they are doing what they can. Fixing stuff like this takes time.

Next you're going to say that "she was asking for it, dressed like that and all."

Everyone who says crap like that is incredibly stupid. Its not even nearly the same thing. Don't group me in with those people.

Gamertags get compromised all the time. While its inconvenient (except if credit card fraud is involved and points were purchased then its more serious) Its common knowledge that having the same password for more than one thing is a terrible idea.

I wonder if they will change your region back. I accidentally changed my region to South Africa late last year and I was on the phone with customer service for several hours trying to revert the change, but to no avail. I have to wait a full year to revert it back to Canada.

I barely have any access to XBLA games which I usually buy a lot of. Pretty much gave up on my 360 since then, which was my main console at the time. I'll be able to change it back on December 5, but I'll probably only stick to exclusives on the 360 now.

And i still wonder why people say Xbox live is better then the free PSN.... For one its free, 2 - my credit card info is not saved as it gives you a choice, 3 - Sony is alot nicer and seems to give a shit about you (Least when my ps3 died). Go playstation or stay getting fucked by microsoft :D

Welcome to the shitty world of Xbox support. I feel for you man. I have had to call for multiple repairs (damn RROD) and a points card that did not work. I always got around it by calling everyday until I find someone who is really nice and goes out of their way to help you. Believe me they DO EXIST.

One guy from there spent 3 hours on the phone with me till I got my problem fixed. Another pointer I have is to hang up right away if you are speaking with someone who does not speak English very well and call again. It is just another headache you simply do not want or need.

On another note the one time I have had to call Sony went very well and even though I lost that system it was a hell of  a lot easier than Xbox support.

I am 21 and i have a job to pay my bills but why does my age have to do with anything? Even if i was 50 i would still vote psn because its free. Sure the network was down for over a month but that had hardly done any damage to my vision of how much better their network was seeing as how Live was down years ago also due to retardism just like what happened to sony. I just have a problem in why I should have to Pay to use the internet on a console after I am already paying for internet for my house? Why should i play games on Xbox and pay to play with friends when i can just play free on ps3 or PC? Sorry but Xbox live will never see my money until its free. So napalm, how old are you?
