@spicyrichter: That's a lie. At best you could play a few games on low settings. That's also not bringing up exclusives that are not present on the PC at all. Take your PC master race horseshit circlejerk back to Reddit.
So it comes out a week after the PS4 in North America but a week before the PS4 in Europe. Hmm, looks like they are taking their American audience for granted and pushing hard into Europe. A year from now I don't believe any of this will matter, but I am still intrigued to see what the numbers are that first month of release.
So it's going to be $100 more expensive, come with a Kinect, and come out a week later?
I imagine that it will do okay in the U.S., now that the Kinect is no longer mandatory nor the 24-hour internet check in, but I still think they have an uphill battle ahead of them. Like they said on the Bombcast, they should find a way to make Titanfall a full gen exclusive. That's the only way I see it evening out at this point. (Well, that or Sony shooting themselves in the foot... which could always happen.)
I preferred the Xbox 360 controller over the DualShock 3. Having tried both this past weekend at PAX, I prefer the DualShock 4 over the Xbox One controller.
What would you say is the reasoning for picking the PS4 controller over xbox one?
Did the Xbox controller seem like a step back in terms of usability? Does the PS4 controller really hit it out of the park as a comfortable to use controller?
For me it boiled down to this, the DualShock 3 makes my hands cramp sometimes, while I can't remember the last time the Xbox 360 controller ever did. The DualShock 4 felt very comfortable in my hands and my hands didn't cramp. The Xbox One controller didn't feel comfortable, from its size and shape, to its analog sticks, and it made my hands cramp like the DualShock 3.
I have small hands for what it's worth. I didn't like the old Xbox Duke controllers, and liked the smaller version.
About the only negative I have with the DualShock 4 is the same one I've had with all of Playstation's controllers, I just don't like the way their D-pad has those breaks between the buttons. They make my thumb sore with extended use.
My Amazon order says ship date estimate of Nov 27th? Maybe it will be like the PS4 and change when I get the official Email saying that it will be at my door Day ONE!
People like to over analyze stuff I get that, but I just think they picked a date they would be ready for in the markets they need to hit. These are big companies with very solid distribution in place, so its just supply. Microsoft also has elements that need extra localisation support. Sony may stagger release to help focus marketing, or it may be supply. It's just a product launch!
1.75.. that blows my mind.. I hadn't read about the performance of the consoles until I saw this, spent some time reading about specs of the new consoles and got really depressed.. You could actually build a faster PC right now at a 500 dollar budget.. I get that sony and ms doesn't want to lose money, but if they want to have games that don't look like shit compared to their PC counter parts.. They're going to have to release a new console gen in like 5 years.
The 360 and PS3's got released with specs MUCH closer to what was the current standard for PC gaming rigs. During this past generation of consoles, a ton of people left consoles for PC's because the console gen just dragged on for ever, and the past 2-3 years of consoles have been plagued with 30fps locks and shit like that just to have the graphics look semi reasonable on the back of the box and on screenshots. youtube only runs at 30fps anyways, so showing off your games looks exactly the same either it's at 30, 60 or 120 as far as trailers go.
That said, I'm buying both. There are so many fun games that don't really need great graphics and whatnot, LBP and such, and by the spectacular looks of RIME, there's probably enough juice in the PS4 to keep devs busy for a while. But still... I REALLY hope they're not betting on another 8 year cycle because they're already about 1-2 years behind the standard set by the 360 and ps3, which means a 2021 console would be very close to a decade behind the PC specs of that time.. Not that consoles have to keep up with the PC, but the 360/PS3 era showed that consoles and PC's get pretty much exactly the same games. And in 3-4 years, a cheap 500 buck laptop is going to be able to outperform the xbone/ps4 with ease.. Seems a really bad time to skimp on the performance. Especially seeing as PC gamers will have 2x 1080 displays in VR goggles within the next 5 years, easily. No way these consoles will be able to run 3840x2060 at 60fps. The gap is just going to explode.. Where will the devs go once the PC pulls ahead by a mile? If the 360/PS3 gen is anything to go by, back to PC.
Unless.. If Xbox and PS4 decide to become actual consoles again, that is, focus on crazy games and just awesome shit the way the PS1 and PS2 did, which it seems like Sony is thinking about.. If they do that and set themselves apart from the PC they'll probably be better off. If they go head to head with the PC again, though.. The only people who will be left playing consoles would be fanboys, kids and casual gamers.. NO ONE wants that situation.
@chiablo: Pretty much. And since we never actually knew their clock speeds it's absolutely meaningless. Just MS trying to generate positive PR anyway they can.
The PlayStation 4 comes out the 29th huh? I kind of anticipated that whoever announced first was going to end up coming out later because the opposite company would try to one-up them so I guess that makes sense.
My Fall gaming is already in order, though. I got Rayman Legends and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen for 360, a 3DS XL and a bunch of great games for it. It's gonna be awesome. I'm sitting on quite the backlog on PS3 too so...I'm definitely not getting a new console right now.
@ghostchant: My guess would be over-clocking via a day-one update patch.

Well, it comes out the 15th in the US, which is HUGE deal. I know Europe is a big deal, but I think gaining a foothold in the US is a better get. Besides, Sony is already #1 in Europe, so they have a little less to worry about
I imported one from Amazon UK from with free delivery so if it times correctly, it might end up arriving the same day I receive the launch-day PS4 from my own country.
DOUBLE CONSOLES!
The specs of both consoles are pretty pathetic. I don't see why everyone's so excited about them. Sure, new games and prettier graphics, but with those specs, the pretty graphics are only gonna last 2, maybe 3 years, then, they'll have to come up with a whole new console gen. This whole thing is just a huge waste of money, at least to me.
Bumping up the clockspeed should be perfectly safe with the Xbox One, and it will be a benefit at least for the launch titles. Instead of some titles dipping in framerates here and there, chances are quite large they won't dip at all with the boost.. and I guess that's it.
Still no excuse for having so many 720p titles. Love 60fps but ffffffffffuck 720p60, I'll take post-effects motion-blur 1080p30 that feels and looks like 60 for real over 720p60. No more upscaled shit.
@nashvilleskyline: Go back to Nashville and your towns jaded sense of itself with its shitty skyline. Was hoping you would move beyond the country vibe that comes from the area but your marketing sucks, plus you're all cowboy hat wearing douchebags.....alright can't keep this stupid line going anymore but seriously?

Ohh right...I was trying to remember what had been announced and a quick search came up with the 29th. I live in Utah so I guess that doesn't apply to me.
Another reason to get the PS4. It will be out in Sweden this year.
Meh. For me the Xbox One will release in 2013, but if it would release in 2014 I wouldn't buy a PS4. There's just not that much I want to play on it. And just buying a console because it releases earlier doesn't seem like getting my money's worth to me. I'm going to wait this one out. Wait till the PS4 gets some games I'll enjoy and then I'll probably pick that one up too.
