The game received generally favorable reviews, although not as high as other games in the Yoshi series, particularly "Yoshi's Island". The game is docked for having a steep learning curve and high difficulty level with frustrating moments.
The graphics have the Yoshi's Island kind of makeover with a crayon kind of effect with everything and looks really pretty and colourful. Baby Mario and Yoshi look really good and the enemies are detailed and there's a good deal of variation, some enemies you'll know and some you won't know.

From the beginning of the game, the player can venture through three different types of modes: "Score Attack," "Marathon," and the "Multiplayer vs. mode." Additionally, the player can unlock extra modes.
