After watching the Alice: Madness Returns QL, i decided to pick up the game. And i wasn't disappointed!
This game is extremely beautiful with a wide variety of themes and environments and colors and "auras", has a light and entertaining style to the gameplay, a grim, compelling and british-y Sherlock Holmes-esque story, and is just an overall fun experience! (Yes, i just said "britishy" ;p)

I'm almost 1.5 hours into the game and i'm having a great time, i thought i'd show some Steam screenshots!

This game proves that graphical advancements and cutting edge technology aren't always needed for a game to look breathtaking. Sure, this game is graphically inferior and has a  slightly poor attention to detail, yet the art direction and environments are simply stunning.
(Running it on PC, almost maxed out)

Looks cool, I'm a big fan of 3d platformers and such, I'll probably pick it up when I can get it for $30 or so.

If you want your images to appear normal size, upload your images externally then insert the images using the "insert > html" feature. <img src=[image url]>. Although, it may be a good idea to link to the full size images instead of displaying them directly in the forums.

Anyway, the game visually seems great, I just wish the gameplay seemed more appealing :(

The PhysX is kinda bullshit. All It does for me is have some pretty things on the ground and halves my FPS.

@BeachThunder:  I usually post a link to a fullsize version of each picture, right underneath it, but Steam is being an ass and won't let me upload the screens. i'll update the post later

I'm totally fine with this average and slightly repetitive gameplay, since it's really fun. in addition to the story being quite interesting, and the scenery/environments looking great

How are the controls? I get really frustrated if third-person games have crappy controls.

@BeachThunder:  The only irritating thing is the camera movement. It feels like the game was built to assist gamepads' analog sticks move faster, which makes controlling the camera with the mouse feel super sensitive.
But once you get used to how the camera pans, you'll start controlling it better.

the WASD controls are fine, and jumping/double jumping/gliding using the space bar is awesome. You use caps lock to lock onto enemies, tab to switch the lock-on between the available enemies, C to interact with the world, hold left Ctrl to shrink, shift to evade (the evading mechanic ROCKS) and the mouse buttons to fight

I've actually grown fond of the whacky mouse/camera control, it gives the world a crazier feel.  The fights are really fun, and so is the discovering.

I really think this game is going on my Top Ten 2011 Games list, because it feels real unique and looks so too.

The game has a very cool art style that almost makes up for its repetitiveness

I'm eager to play this game. I'm digging the art style and themes, though I will admit it looks like a PS2 game.

This is a fantastic game, I had played the original right when I got into video games and loved it but then forgot about it. Picked this up day one and was very pleasantly surprised, the game looks and plays phenomenal.

I'm somewhere on Ch.5, appart from some very minor annoying things, the game has been a blast and the art style is some of the best I've ever seen. This will most certainly figure in my top 10 for 2011 ^^
Also, the original Alice is included, so I'll probably play that for the third time (although first in many years) when I'm done with Madness Returns :D

The old Alice was pretty striking for its time as well. I bought the new Alice knowing that most of the enjoyment would be the visuals. The gameplay is serviceable, but the art is where it shines.

@Ahmad_Metallic: I'll probably pick it up when it's relatively cheap on Steam. Hopefully the sale will start soon :o

Anyway, I've been playing Prince of Persia 2008 recently, which made me realise that third-person platforming can actually be good.

Also, out of interest, what is the queen of hearts question?

Played it, beat it and really enjoyed it.  You're not wrong when you say the game is visually striking, since it's the best and most notable quality of the game.  I really hope it sells enough to turn some heads, despite the lack of marketing.  I would really like to see more games that are imaginative as this come to market, and not just FPS after FPS.

I thought the controls were tight, well defined and easily learned.  The weakest part of the mechanics was due to the camera, not the camera itself, but the fact that you could be fighting a group of monsters and one off-camera would get a cheap shot in.  Other than that, it's a very fun romp and definitely a shamefully overlooked title.  Here's to hoping for more originality, such as this, in the future.

After playing through it, can't agree more, which is why I ordered the art book of the game from amazon while playing a few hours of it. The cinematics, Victorian bits & the rest of the game all have quite different looks at times to them but they all fit together exquisitely together in the mad little puzzle that's Alice Madness Returns. Love the DLC & normal outfits for Alice too as they all have quite interesting looks to them, hard to pick my favorites from the Steampunk, underwater Viper fish & some of the other story mode outfits.
